기능성

버티컬 마우스를 선택하는 가장 큰 이유가 손목 통증 완화라는 점에서, 이볼루엔트 버티컬 마우스 4는 만족스러운 경험을 제공한다. 일반적인 마우스를 사용하는 동안 경험했던 손목 부분의 통증이 완전히 사라진 것을 느낄 수 있었다.

이볼루엔트 마우스 드라이버를 설치하면 아래 그림과 같은 설정창을 볼 수 있다. 참고로 오른손용 마우스를 기준으로 설명하는 것임을 미리 밝힌다. 또한, 아래 그림의 설정창은 내가 실제로 사용 중인 상태로 내 사용습관에 맞춰 설정한 것이다.

그림에서 볼 수 있듯이 이볼루엔트 버티컬 마우스 4에는 휠을 포함하여 총 여섯 개의 버튼이 장착되어 있다. 먼저, 마우스의 좌측면에 엄지손가락으로 조작할 수 있는 두 개의 버튼이 있다. 나는 이 엄지손가락 버튼 가운데 위쪽에 있는 버튼을 뒤로 가기 용도로 사용하고, 아래쪽 버튼은 작업창 최대화 용도로 사용한다. 최대화 후 같은 버튼을 한 번 더 누르면 다시 원래 크기로 돌아간다.

심미성

전체적으로 어두운 색상의 곡선형으로 이루어진 무난한 디자인이다. 이러한 디자인은 오래 사용해도 질리지 않는 장점이 있다. 외형에서 가장 눈에 띄는 것은 엄지손가락이 닿는 부분으로 거울 같은 유광의 은색 도장이 되어 있다. 그런데 3년 가까이 사용하는 동안, 이 부위에 엄지손가락과 마찰이 반복적으로 있었음에도 조금의 미세한 흠집도 없이 처음의 광택이 사라지지 않고 매끈한 상태를 유지하고 있다. 무척 만족스러운 부분이다.

내구성

2017년 8월에 구입하였고 이후 3년이 조금 안 되는 기간 꾸준히 사용하였다. 몇 차례 책상 높이에서 딱딱한 바닥에 떨어뜨린 적이 있지만, 현재까지는 외형상 파손이나 기능상 이상이 없다.

다만 몇 군데 마모가 관찰되는데, 구체적으로 세 가지 부분을 꼽을 수 있다. 먼저, 마우스 버튼 아래쪽의 날카롭게 튀어나온 부분의 도장이 약간 벗겨진 것이 관찰된다. 두 번째로 마우스 패드에 미끄러지는 슬립 부분이 마우스 바닥에 총 4곳이 있는데 이곳도 약간의 마모가 있다. 마지막으로, 배터리 케이스 내에 완충 기능을 위해 스펀지로 만들어진 부분이 있는데 USB 리시버를 넣었다 빼는 과정에서 이 스펀지 부분에 마모가 있다. 하지만 3년 가까운 시간을 계속 손에 놓지 않고 사용했다는 점을 고려하면 이 세 군데 모두 불가피한 정도의 마모라고 생각하며, 기능상에 큰 이상을 유발하지 않는다.

가격대

2017년 8월 구입 당시에 국내에서 구입하는 것은 수수료를 고려하더라도 비상식적으로 비싸서 아마존을 통해 직구로 구입하였다. 2017년 8월 당시 가격은 배송비 포함 USD 113.82였다. 한편, 2020년 5월 중순 현재 아마존에서 배송비 포함 USD 137.16(KRW 172,613)에 구입할 수 있다.

총평

마우스 사용 시 손목 통증으로 불편을 겪고 있다면 수직형 마우스 혹은 버티컬 마우스, 그 가운데서도 가장 검증된 모델인 이볼루엔트 버티컬 마우스 4를 적극적으로 추천한다. 가격은 다른 수직형 마우스에 비해 다소 비싸지만 그만한 값어치가 있다는 게 사용자들의 중론이다.

총평

Durability

It was purchased in August 2017 and has been used steadily for less than three years. I dropped it on a hard floor from the height of the desk several times, but until now, it has no apparent damage or malfunction.

However, in some places, wear is observed, specifically, three parts can be selected. Functionality

This is a hard case-shaped mouse case that wraps the entire Evoluent Vertical Mouse 4. The inner surface made of soft fusion material can protect the stored mouse well.

I bought it because it is possible to use a small size based on a regular size, but if I put in a small size, there is some space left inside. However, when I insert the mouse, close the zipper, and shake it, there is no feeling that the mouse moves inside.

The product includes a silver carabiner (climbing hook), but it fits tightly when connected to the hook on the case body’s zipper handle. Therefore, it is better not to use it.

Aesthetic impression

It has a black fabric structure that resembles carbon fiber. It also looks very hard.

Durability

It is a product belonging to the kind of hard case that does not distort its shape even when applied with strength. It is so hard that the shape does not deform even if it is moved with other objects in the bag.
