We started last week's show on @kcsbfm with the track "New York City" by the iconic Haitian band Tabou Combo, in honor of their co-founder and drummer Herman Nau who passed away on July 25th. Nau and Albert Chancy founded the group in 1966 as Los Incognitos. The next year they won 1st prize in a competition on Radio Haïti and changed their name to Tabou Combo. The group eventually settled in NYC while they continued to record and perform live over the next 50+ years. Under Nau's leadership, Tabou Combo got audiences dancing around the world with their upbeat konpa rhythms and lyrics in Kreyòl🇭🇹, Spanish (see "Panama Querida"), French & English.
