I’ve read the novel Sleep by the author, C.L. Taylor during my blogging days and really enjoyed it but for some reason, I haven’t managed to get to any of her other work although as always, they’re there on my TBR waiting to be read! 🙈 This particular book was put into my hands by my sister @chrissireads as we both have a special connection with one of the settings in this story, Malta. Elizabeth Haynes (another author I admire) called C.L.Taylor “the absolute queen of the page-turner,” and she’s quite right. This is a gripping story with such an intriguing mystery at the heart of it. It involves two sisters, Fran and Jenna. It’s no spoiler to say that Jenna disappeared, feared dead, on a wellness retreat held by Tom Wade, the infamous figure behind SoulShrink Retreats. Tom has just been released from prison after serving time for the deaths of two people on the specific retreat that Jenna was on, but has never admitted any culpability or offered any clues on what may have happened to Jenna. Alongside his wife, Tom is now hosting retreats again and Fran is desperate to find out what happened to her sister so signs up incognito under another name to do some investigating, not realising she herself could be in serious danger. Not only do I love stories involving siblings, particularly sisters, I adore a tale that I just can’t predict. There are unreliable characters galore (another favourite trope of mine) and the reader never knows quite what is going on until the heady final chapters. Her Last Holiday is the perfect summer read if you’re looking for a compelling, unputdownable and thrilling story that hits all the right fictional spots!
