@herkingofgotham âĄâd for a starter
{âĄ} Harley always had a certain life p l a n to follow. Sheâd get her bachelorâs in psychology, take that to Gotham Medical where sheâd become the s e c o n d Dr. Quinzel in her family, meet a man, fall madly, deeply in l o v e, theyâd get married, and theyâd have two (maybe threeâdepending on his job) kids. Of course, her life was already off that path, but not ridiculously strayed. She had met Jack while working on her bachelorâs degree, they became serious after graduation and now here she was, three years (and four years with Jack) into medical schoolâliving with the man that she had fallen madly, d e e p l y in love with. Sure, they had agreed that marriage may be best after she earned her doctorate, but they hadnât even discussed the remote possibility of kids.
 Which suddenly seemed like a p r o b l e m.
  Signs had been going off that something was wrong for a few weeks, give or take. She had been coming home more e x h a u s t e d, looking drained of all energy. The nausea wouldnât come until mid-afternoon, rudely interrupting her minuscule lunch break. So, sheâd come home hungry and a n n o y e dâmaybe a little short and snappy with her boyfriend who really didnât deserve it.Â
 Pam suggested the pregnancy testânot Harley, not Selina. She refused to allow this to further stray her from her life path (not that Jack was an unhappy detour), but this was so much different. A b a b y wasnât something either one of them could handle at the momentânot with as much work they both had. Harley only had one m o r e year of medical school, one more before she began a job at the Arkham Asylum and somehow a baby felt like it would justâŚget in the way.
 She rushed home from school, beating Jack to the apartment and locked herself in the bathroom with her liter of o r g a n i c apple juice and the three boxes of pregnancy tests (god bless Costco), throwing her purse against the door to bar any other entry. It felt like hours before her phone timer chimed and even then she couldnât open her eyes. Her heart beat rapidly in her ears, seemingly in time with the now opening front door.
  âIâll be out in a minute to start d i n n e r, Puddinâ!â She called through, even as her voice faltered a little bit at the sight of the pink plus signs. Tears formed in her eyes as her d r e a m s crashed around her. What am I gonna do?
