Because it’s World Tapir Day, here’s a drawing of Heptodon, one of the earliest known tapirids. It lived during the Eocene in North America, didn’t have proboscis, had five digits on front legs (but three on hind legs), and was much smaller than modern tapirs. It weighted about 15 kg ( the smallest living tapir, Tapirus kabomani, weights about 110kg).
It was supposed to be a quick drawing, but it wasn’t.
