For nearly two decades Atlanta artist Alex Brewer, aka Hense, has been blurring the line between street art and abstract painting—described by High Museum of Art’s Michael Rooks as combining “the quick pace and point-of-view of street culture with tumultuous compositions often characterized by highly keyed color, vertiginous line and biomorphic shapes.” For this 2014 work on Broadway in Columbus, Georgia, Hense was inspired by the surrounding buildings, saying “I find an interesting juxtaposition between historic architecture and contemporary public art.” Artbeat Columbus reports that Hense’s focus on simple forms, shapes, and colors is intended to push viewers and expand perceptions of what makes a painting or mural. @hensethename @artbeatcolumbus @highmuseumofart
