          “well i don’t know if i could ever be as good looking as you, but i could always try,” he said as he was already looking around the kitchen for something to do before turning to her with a lost puppy dog look upon his face. “uh, what exactly do you want me to do?”

Richie liked hanging out with Christy. He wasn’t much for crushes but he found himself looking forward to their afternoon smoke sessions. She laughed at his terrible jokes and had a sweet smile. She didn’t deserve to be stuck in this shitty little town, and neither did he. They were black sheep together. 

Dustin had intended to keep the stash hidden from Christy, maybe even throw it out. He knew she could just get more but only once she had more money. After sitting there, staring at the stash box for a while, curiosity got the better of him. He opened the box and let out a disgusted groan at the smell. He fiddled with all the strange things inside--a bag full of the leafy green stuff itself, a little metal pipe, a glass one, and a lot of little papers. 

He had first pulled out the weed, emptying a little onto the lid and poking at it as though it was a living monster that might attack him at any minute. It had a strange sticky quality and he crunched some of it curiously between his fingers. It crumbled quite easily and he stared at the other things in the box. He had no idea what to do with the papers but the pipes looked pretty easy to figure out. He picked the metal one because it reminded him of his grandpa’s terrible tobacco pipe which he had used once before, the smoke making him sick. He broke up some of the green stuff and stuffed it into the black part of the metal pipe. His nose curled as he picked up the lighter. “Well, here goes nothing,” he muttered to himself before flicking the lighter and sucking in--or so he thought he was sucking it in. The shit blow out of the pipe, exploding all over the bed. 

“FUCK!” He shouted.

“What’s the matter Dusty?” His mom called out, his heart speeding wildly at the sound.

“NOTHING MOM IT’S FINE!” He screeched in a frantic response. He sighed before putting back all the little green sprigs he could find, wiping the excess off his bed with a grumble. “This is a stupid idea,” he muttered. Before taking another deep breath and giving it another shot. This time, it worked, the air rushing past the green with the flames igniting into a ball of light. The smoke hit him suddenly, but he’d sucked so hard that it went down hard. He coughed, reflexively pulling the pipe away. “Aw man, that’s nasty,” he choked.
