Henlo ! ooo So I take it it was your animation I saw :0 !! the queen with the flowing hair , it was awesome !! I was wondering if you had any tips and tricks that saved you in animation ? I know it's really vague and I'm sorry for that (noth replaces practice !) , but I'm currently line arting a project ..which has been sitting in my laptop for 4 months and had a due date and I'm in dear need of a motivational boost ;;" and strangely reading those help ?
Henlo! Thank you for the ask. We all struggle to look for motivation and break free from art block! But here are some tips I’ve picked up while working on a bunch of my projects.Â
Deadline - Everything must have a deadline! If you are given that free amount of time with no limit, I’m afraid you won’t be finishing what you’re working on, as you’ll be stuck with the mindset that “I can always do this tomorrow”.
Making Time - We’re all busy people, so finding that perfect chunk of time to finish things never really happens. Instead, I suggest that you make the most out of your small time! Be it when you’re waiting for your dinner to be ready, water to boil, or rather than watching TV, you try to get some work done. You’d be surprised at how much you’ve finished. Even if it’s just 3 frames. Imagine how much frames you can make with 5 minutes each day.
Inspiration - Finding inspiration can be hard as it comes and goes. But one of the main things you should remember is “why you started”. Be inspired by the idea that you wanted to make something happen.
Patience - This is a big life saver in animation! As animation is really hard and it really bums you out when you realize the movements are not going according to what you’ve wanted or you get stuck somewhere. Remember to always plan out the animation, starting with simple story boards, then slowly making sure the scene has sense. It doesn’t need to be perfect in one go. If you’re messing up already, take a break and come back again when you’re ready. Don’t push yourself too much!
Most of my 5 second animations take a week to finish or more! As I don’t really have that whole afternoon to work on it. So I really assure you to at least try to draw a few frames each day! Listen to some music, drink chocolate, exercise and think about how awesome your animation will look like when you’re done.
