Some psychology tips to help improve your memory
In my phycology class we have been learning about memory, and our kind professor has given us some tips on how to improve our memory for the upcoming exams. I have decided to share with the rest of you :)
1. Use keywords - Create keywords for each chapter, and then for each sub-section of that chapter. Write them down before you start to study.
2. Rely on organization - make mental framework the first time you read chapters. This way new information will fill in easier. In addition! Rely on visual thinking, convert information into images; this way it is easier on the brain to recall this information.
3. Take EFFECTIVE notes - do not write down every single detail - ‘less words - more recall’. Write down important parts/focus on main points on notes.
4. Practice - use library - cafe - music - tea/coffee/apple/ water. Find a suitable spot for studying: always the same spot if possible.
5. Talk to yourself - audio cues - visual cues - effective note taking. This way you will have more chances to remember the material in exams. According to Mari-Beffa talking to yourself “helps us organise our thoughts, plan actions, consolidate memory and modulate emotions” (CNN, 2017).
I hope you find these tips helpful! Happy easter break, and good luck studying for exams <3
