are you down for writing sfw alphabet for Walter? ◕_◕
I so am! 😉 I'm way too obsessed with this character not to. Ty for this ask! I'll be spreading this for a couple of posts with around 5 for each. 6 for the last one.
A-E:
A = Affection (How affectionate are they? How do they show affection?)
I think it is a spectrum based on who it is with and the timing. The majority of the way he shows affection is through acts of service, offering a cup of tea (its like offering someone a grand okay!), offering an ear when someone has an issue, and taking the initiative to do an activity the other party enjoys.
He is physically affectionate but it takes a lot for it to be genuine. He’d hug a longtime bloke. With a partner, he is incredibly passionate and loving. He’ll make the occasional jest at someone else but it's only to get a rise. They’ve been around him long enough to know his humor.
He is oddly perceptive of what will make someone else happy. He studies people in a way, especially if he likes them. If he likes you then he likely knows more than he lets on.
B = Best friend (What would they be like as a best friend? How would the friendship start?)
The friendship may start by bumping into one another at the grocery store. He makes a comment about the ingredients in your basket. You both get to chatting about your dinner plans, maybe discuss sauces that really elevate a dish, or a imported tea his employer has started to enjoy a lot. That’s how you find out he is a butler. A rather old fashioned line of work but still very respectable. You exchange pleasantries and leave. However, you both coincidentally meet again every now and again.
Off the clock, Walter comes off as witty, polite, and well-educated. He is much older than you but it doesn’t seem to dull the conversation at all. If anything, he is happy to bridge the gaps by asking what you like and then responding with his own. You find out he is a huge fan of sci-fi, philosophy, and history when it comes to reading. He may be a little guarded about his younger years and even his job. He claims it's not very interesting but come on! He is way too flexible for someone his age and has even given you self-defense pointers. Maybe it is more explainable by the fact that he used to be a soldier, but in the same conversation, he claimed to have been a butler his entire life. Regardless of his confusing job history, he is a great friend who provides interesting company.
He is more than likely to invite you to have dinner with him, take you to a Christmas market, or even have you both stay in for a marathon of a sci-fi show he likes.
C = Cuddles (Do they like to cuddle? How would they cuddle?)
Yes! He strikes me as being starved of a lot of touch. He does enjoy feeling connected to others even if he personally struggles with it. He prefers laying on the other party’s chest. Maybe his head on their lap. Other times he is straddling them. He doesn’t mind reading to a partner while cuddling. He would consider that a good use of his weekend off.
D = Domestic (Do they want to settle down? How are they at cooking and cleaning?)
He does in theory. He is traditional at heart so it is something he ponders. Marriage is a lot. But it feels conflicting to his job and other reservations he has already agreed to years ago. It would feel terrible to want to spend his life with someone only for it to be taken away from him. He is a hopeless romantic at heart. If he is with someone long term, he entertains it and may even be quick to settle down if it is in his younger years. When he is older, it becomes a less sensitive subject. He is an old handsome bachelor. It’s not like he lays in bed staring at the ceiling wondering if despite not having any lineage, he has made something of himself. Everyone has those thoughts. He knows plenty of older individuals who didn’t marry in his life. Arthur was almost like that until he found someone. Perhaps there isn’t someone for him at all.
Or maybe he signed himself away before he even let himself experience his own life.
A life that wasn’t tied to his profession or ego.
He is only being dramatic. He doesn’t need that.
Besides, he has got plenty of good traits as a homemaker. He could settle down easily if he really wanted to. He is an excellent homemaker. Why, he has practically trained his whole life for the ordeal. He could make it even as a house husband if he left Hellsing. He is an excellent cook who would cook almost anything his partner wanted as long as they had the ingredients to do it. He would take care of most of the cleaning as well. It is not that he doesn’t appreciate help, he does, but don’t be surprised if he goes over areas again after they’ve already been straightened up.
E = Ending (If they had to break up with their partner, how would they do it?)
It ultimately depends on how long the relationship was. He is very sensitive about it. He knows what could push the other party over the edge or deeply upset them. If he likes the person but they ultimately aren’t compatible, it is a melancholic and bittersweet breakup. Flowers, favorite candies, and a note, it is like he put together a breakup package for you. He does say it face-to-face. He is honorable enough to tell you how he feels when facing you.
If he was left scorned, he might say a statement a little more pointed to really drive the stake in.
