The Dean Winchester Graphic Challenge damnedean vs. charlie-bradbury-winchester Prompt: Deal
Part 2 of this thing I wrote
âWho are you ignoring me for this time?â
âIâm not ignoring you.â
âI might have implied that your car should be hauled off as trash and you had no comment on the matter. Iâd say youâre not paying too much attention.â
âYou what?!â
âIt was to see if you were paying attention. Clearly, you were not.â
Dean glares at her for a moment before going back to looking at his phone.
âSo who are you texting, anyway? I know Benny doesnât text this much. Or Vic. Aaron doesnât text back that fast.â Charlie asks, trying to peer over Deanâs phone. Dean tilts it away from her.
âDonât worry about it. You donât know them.â
âHighly doubtful. I know a lot of people. More than you.â
âNo. I âknowâ a lot of people. I just donât talk to them after getting to know them.â
âYouâre a pig,â Charlie comments, feigning disgust.
Dean just snorts and shoots off another text, watching his phone as a little bubble pops up to show a reply was already being written. He smiles.
âSeriously, Dean. You look like someone just walked up and ruffled your hair and gave you an entire apple pie. Whoâs got you all giddy?â Charlie prods, watching him curiously.
Dean glances up at her for a moment but looks back at his phone when it buzzes with a new message. âHowâd your test go this morning?â he asks, ignoring her question. Thereâs silence for a long moment and Dean looks up, only to be greeted with a bitch face even stronger than Samâs. âWhat?â
âDonât change the subject.â
âYou donât need to know who Iâm talking to every minute of every day, Charlie. Damn. Leave a guy alone.â
ââYouâre so full of shit, Winchester. Spill.â
hey! i heard about your day at work so yeah can you write a oneshot of destiel? any au or whatever you want :)
sorry this took a bit to get to. but iâm in the mood to write now finally. iâm gonna write about dean and cas working closing shift at mcdonalds. hang on tight.
They were waiting on the new guy, much to Deanâs dismay. They could have been off thirty minutes ago, but apparently the guy was as stubborn as an ass and thought it best to thoroughly scrub every. single. dish that passed by his sink.Â
Theyâd stayed open later than usual because thereâd been surge after surge of people flowing through drive-thru and lobby, all wanting the very annoying special deal that included two large fries, two Big Macs, and twenty piece nuggets. And ice cream. It was summer, after all.
So they didnât close at 11:30pm like usual. Instead, they closed at 12:30am, and they were now sitting and waiting on the new guy at 2:30 in the morning.Â
"Heâs like some kind of robot or something. Heâs been at those dishes since before we even closed," Charlie comments from where she sits across from Dean. Theyâve been waiting in the lobby for thirty minutes already.Â
"Did you tell him he didnât need to scrub everything?"
"Yes, Charlie, I told him. Like, ten times. I told him the dishwasher does most of the work. He doesnât listen," Dean grumbled through a yawn.
"Did you bat your lashes at him? That probably would have had him picking up the pace a little."
Dean rolled his eyes. âFuck off. Iâm not flirting with the new guy.â
"I bet heâd flirt back. Thereâs gotta be something under that android persona.â
"I told you, Charlie. I donât do coworkers."
She snorted. âYeah right. There is no one on this earth you would not do.â
"Thatâs not true," Dean defends, looking offended.
"It so is."
"I donât date coworkers, Charlie. Itâs awkward as hell. Took one time and I learned my lesson pretty damn quick," Dean says finally, glaring at the table top.
"Ooh, who was it?"
"She left before you got hired on. You donât know her."
"You donât know that. I know lots of people."
"Youâre full of shit."
Charlie just smiled, then sighed, looking back in the direction of the front counter. âDo you think heâs gonna be done in the next hour?â She mused.
"He better fucking be done in the next fifteen minutes or Iâm gonna kick his ass. I donât know why Benny even put him on dishes to begin with. He should have been in lobby. I can do dishes faster than that. And I hate doing them.â
"Benny said heâs needs to practice. Thereâs not many closers as it is, and Meg is quitting so sheâll be gone in a week. He needs to learn things."
"Yeah, so he needs to learn how to be fast. I have an exam at ten."
"Yeah, and I have one at nine. Stop complaining."
â
Fifteen more minutes went by and they were still waiting on the new guy. Dean slapped his hand on the table and stood, startling Charlie out of her daze.Â
"I canât take this anymore. Iâm going back there."
He made his way back through the grill and to the sink. he turned the corner and saw that new guy was scrubbing away at the bottom of the fry station.
"What the hell, man? Hurry up!"
New guy looked up, looking tired but eyes still pretty big regardless. And holy hell blue. Dean might have been totally turned on if he wasnât so livid. And the guy wasnât covered in grease and salt and tartar sauce.
"it takes a fair amount of time to wash these dishes, Dean. Iâm doing the best that I can," new guy responded. Dean decided to ignore the attractiveness of his voice.
"No youâre not. Itâs not to difficult. Rinse, put through dish washer, put away. Repeat. It should take you three hours.â
"But they need to be scrubbed down, soaked with the sanitizer solution, andâ"
"No, man. No they donât. You rinse âem and throw them in the washer. Maybe scrub a stubborn grease spot or onion off but you donât have to scrub EVERYTHING. The hose has enough pressure to clean enough, and the washer does the rest just fine. But we need to get out of here sometime before the openers show up. Some of us have lives outside of this place. Like school and more work. Charlie has a test at nine and I know for a fact Benny has to be back here by noon tomorrow. Maybe you donât need sleep, but the rest of us sure would like to."
"Dean, leave the kid alone so he can work.â Benny came up behind Dean and set a hand on his shoulder. âYou sucked at dishes your first time, too.â
"Are you kidding me, Benny? Why are you letting him take this long? Mikeâs gonna be pissed when he sees how long we took to close.â
"Nah, brother, I donât think they will be."
"What the hell are you talking about? Theyâre always pissed when we take to long."
"I think Bennyâs referring to the fact that Mike happens to be my older brother," new guy said, sounding cautious.Â
Well, shit.
Dean turned and looked over at new guy, feeling the color mostly drain from his face. His eyes flicked once to new guyâs name tag -Â Castiel -Â and then he looked at Benny again.Â
"New guyâs a Novak?" he said through his teeth.
Bennyâs amused expression did nothing for Deanâs embarrassment. He didnât even have to answer Dean.
Dean cleared his throat and looked back over at new guy - or Castiel or whatever. What the hell kind of name was that? âSorry, man. My mistake. Keep doing what youâre doing.â He turned to leave.
"But I thought you said I was doing this wrong?" Castiel said, obviously confused now. Dean glnced back to see him looking to Benny. "Are you giving me special treatment because my brother is your boss?"
It was Bennyâs turn to look embarrassed. âI just want to make sure youâre comfortable here, kid.â
"I do feel comfortable here. And I still will if you tell me Iâm doing something wrong. I donât want special treatment. Iâm not going to run off to Michael and tell him how horrible this store is run. Which I donât think at all. but I can assure you that eve if it was, he wouldnât find out from me."
Dean stared at Castiel, something warm swirling in his chest.Â
Benny gave a small now. ââCourse, kid. Hurry the hell up with dishes. Deanâs right. We canât be here all night and youâre takinâ too long on âem.â He turned and went back to his office.
A jab came to Deanâs ribs and he blinked, turning to see Charlie with a shit-eating grin spread across her face.
"What the hell are you smiling about?" he grumbled, rubbing at his side.
"I saw that fond little smile you had. Got all warm and fuzzy feeling when Castiel stood up for himself, huh?" Charlie said, following Dean back out to the lobby.
"I think youâre seeing things."
â
They were heading out to their cars just ten minutes later, finally finished for the evening. Dean was about to slide into the front seat when he got the distinct feeling someone was behind him. He turned to find Castiel just a few feet away, staring at him.
"Uh, whatâs up?" Dean asked, more than a little confused.Â
"Iâm sorry Iâve been taking so long during close. I was under the impression I was doing alright. Youâd tell me one thing, but Benny was telling me that I was fine doing it how I was, so I didnât think changing what I was doing was necessary. I should have realized it sooner. I apologize."
Dean frowned. âYou donât have to apologize for that. You didnât know.â
"No, but I should have. Working at one of my brotherâs stores⌠I should have been prepared for special treatment. It was bound to happen."
Dean watched him for a moment before taking a deep breath. âWell, iâm sorry i yelled at you in there. Itâs been a long night.â
"That it has. But worse for you, I suppose. you have to be up soon, I assume? And you clocked on before me."
Dean nodded slowly. âI have a test at ten, so yeah. Gotta be up in⌠uh⌠like, six hours now.â
Cas grimaced. âMy apologies. I wonât be taking that long again, I promise.â
"Itâs fine, Cas. You know now, so itâs cool."
Castielâs expression turned warm for a moment. ââCasâŚâ No oneâs ever called me that before.â
"Oh, uh⌠Sorry. I have a habit of shortening peopleâs names like that. If you prefer Castiâ"
"No, I think I like Cas."
Dean smiled a little and nodded. He looked around and realized that the other two had left, leaving him and Cas alone in the parking lot. There was also only one car left in the lot, and that was Deanâs.
"Uh, Cas? Whereâs your car?"
"Huh? Oh. I walked," Cas replied simply.
"Walk? At three in the morning. No way."
"How else do you expect me to get home?" Cas inquired, raising an eyebrow.
"I can take you home, obviously," Dean stated, finally dropping into the driverâs seat. "Get in."
"You donât have to do this, Dean. I walk everywhere all the time. Iâm fine."
"Cas, donât make me strap you in the car myself."Â
With a huff and a roll of his eyes, Cas walked around the back of the car and climbed into the passenger seat. he buckled up and looked over at Dean. âI live over by Sunset. I hope that isnât out of your way.â
"Nope. I actually live over that way, too."
â
"Thank you for the ride, Dean. I appreciate it."
"Hey, if you need a ride any other time, Iâm more than happy to give you one."
Cas gave him a small smile and a nod of his head before opening the door to get out.
Dean fought with himself for a moment before giving in a grabbing a pen from his dash. âHey, uhâ HereâŚâ He grabbed Casâ hand before he could go any further and he scribbled his phone number onto his palm. Dean tried not to hold on too long, but he thought he probably did. He let go of Casâ hand and cleared his throat. âFor, uhm, you know. To call me if you need a ride or whatever.â
Cas looked at his hand for a moment, then up at Dean. He nodded again. âThank you.â
Dean gave him a small smile in reply.
Cas got out and Dean watched him as he went into his apartment building. He drove home, the dopiest smile on his face.
