First day of married life
Stars above, it feels like a dream for Poe to wake up and see his husband slumbering next to him
Poe as, always, opens his eyes long before Finn does, and watches the rise and fall of Finn's chest, his careless and peaceful expression in sleep
He smiles and wakes up his partner with a kiss
Finn blinks awake, and upon realizing where he is, kisses eagerly back
They've escaped to Naboo the day after their Yavin IV wedding, staying in a borrowed bed and lake house. Leia had mentioned once that she visited frequently before the third galactic war, getting to know her birth mother's home. The conversation had been brief, but Poe's own mother and the general had both attested to the planet's beauty and tranquility
So Poe drags Finn out of bed, not bothering to fully dress, warmed by the morning sun and the heat of Finn beside him. After a fresh and quick breakfast, Finn leads Poe to a beach to spend the morning in the water and relaxing on the sand
It's Finn who suggests it first, but Poe peppers a trail of kisses along his husband's neck and jaw and tells him that he'll see him on the beach, fully intending to beat Finn to the water's edge
And he does exactly that, having the advantage of surprising and a greater incentive to win the race
It's only a hundred yards or so to the sandy front of the lakeside house, but it's enough for Poe to get ahead and duck out of view for a moment
Then Finn gets his second surprise of the day; Poe is standing completely nude in front of his, a proud smirk gracing his face
It is a private beach, after all. Being war heroes has its perks
Finn can't help himself but to snort at his husband's boldness, and he begins to approach Poe, smiling wildly, but the other man shakes his head, still grinning, and backs away slowly, retreating into the crystal clear water
There is little choice but for Finn to follow, stripping of what little clothes he has on and chase Poe into the lake
It's a fun morning; aside from non-swimming activities, the water is calm and amazing. Finn, having learned to swim just a few years prior, only after he joined the Resistance, is slower in the water than Poe, but that's not much of a concern; their priorities mostly lie elsewhere
Although Poe enjoys teasing Finn by putting distance between them, all he wants is to be close
When they've exhausted themselves, the couple trods out of the water to eat lunch
They relax all afternoon, finally showering and dressing. They're out of uniform, in light linen clothes, reveling in the light breeze and serenity of the world around them
They are duty free for once, but even so, one important obligation stands. Out of order by traditional standards, they adopted their daughter before marriage, and they holocomm with Rey, who holds Hera in her arms to wave at her dads
The conversation isn't too long, consisting mostly of half-formed sentences and waves from their toddler, but even on their respite from responsibility, they miss the other part of their family
But afterwards, the whole planet is theirs to explore. They venture to Naboo's grand waterfalls and rolling fields, exploring the vast and incredible land before them
It's perfect, made all the better by the company and the promise of a whole lifetime united as one
