Hello Mr. x Guy Lab
I went to a gay dance party with some friends, invited some of my closest cis Asian women fronds, armed them with some general etiquette surrounding the space, and managed to dance the night away surrounded by community, understanding, love and joyful resistance.
“To love is to resist. So, let's resist with all our hearts.”
But beyond the happiness of dancing your heart out was the comfort of building community. I’ve been struggling to find how to “fight” this year - my distrust of protest, my distrust of my elected officials, my distrust of majority politics causing a sort of paralysis (my plea for forgiveness & pitiful defense is my budding participation at SRLP). I talked to my friends the next day and asked them how they felt about the community and the event and their response was one of empathy - they were beginning to understand what (I felt) our space looked like, a grain of sand on a (potentially?) infinite beach. And if they could empathize and commune with that one grain, how many more could they connect with?
So maybe I’ll try that...maybe I’ll resist through love. By loving myself, loving others and bringing them closer into me.
