The Tumblr community is a hugbox and I really dislike it. While this place is such a fantastic community to grow your skills in, itās so afraid of offending people that it often times forgets the outside world. Thatās a problem, because instead of improving, you see writing concepts that only really work inside Tumblr. You never get any criticism that you need. You step on eggshells here, so much so that even saying that itās easy to offend people on Tumblr will offend someone on Tumblr. Iām not sure thatās the best place to grow.Ā

Similar to my last point and to a post made by @bandagedbanditā¦Iām a progressive, and lbgt ally, but I really think that Tumblrās mindset has made it ignore reality. While we need to expand representation, if youāre roleplaying a 60 year old crime lord, how believable is it that heās demisexual panromantic otherkin? First off, we need to be real that even if older characters are caught up in the times (they probably wonāt be), progressive ideas are moving very fast and are very young. They donāt catch on fast, and they arenāt as up to date as someone who spends most of their time on the internet and/or as activists. Tumblr identifies now hundreds of genders and iāve seen them on different Pokeblogs. If you were to random sample people above 35, how many people would you have to interview before you found someone that could adequately understand even 1/20th of these terms and ideas? So when I see older, traditional characters who identify and act in such a way, I immediately am taken out of the immersion, because it just seems shoehorned. I want to see interesting new characters that donāt fit the same molds, but I also want to believe them and not feel like theyāre manipulative tokens.

Overuse of text formatting is irritating to me. I mean no offense to anyone who does this, but personally, when you have a one paragraph response thatās shaped like a large squiggle with half your words arbitrarily bolded, spaced out between each letter, and crossed out, it seems like youāve gone too far. It doesnāt look good, itās just irritating to read at that point. I remember during my first incarnation, I followed a really well written blog, but it posted a three sentence reply that quite literally did not have more than two words together in the same format. Thatās a huge pet peeve.
