Joshua started crying then, burying his face in the other boy's shoulder as he whined, "No! I want Clive!" Then, stopped short as if he had processed who he was talking to, he whipped his head around, wincing at the motion. "Clive?"

"Yes, Joshua. Come here. We have to go. Won't you walk with me?" His little brother untangled himself from the quiet blond at his side and padded over to Clive, latching onto his waist and giggling with tears still in his voice. He patted the crown of Joshua's hair, hoping to soothe. Then his gaze fell on the lost look of the other child and he hesitated, asking, "Will someone be here soon for you?"

"I … do not know," replied the child honestly, fiddling with the cuffs of his shirt. They had the markings of Sanbreque at the edges of them. "Can … can I return to the castle with you?"

Relieved that the child seemed unimpaired, Clive nodded and held out another hand. "An honor, surely. Allow me to escort you back … sorry, I do not recall your name." Or more accurately, he had not been introduced to the other noble children at the banquet. A little too old to sit with the others and a little too young to sit with the Shields representing Rosaria. Leaving him the odd one out, resigned to the shadows as his betters would have it.

The child straightened, puffing out his tiny chest as he saluted in true Sanbreque fashion. Cheeks glowing, eyes bright, the boy said, "Bahamut greets the brother of the Phoenix. Dion Lesage, at your service."

He jolted in place as the prince took his other hand, gripping too tight for Clive to deny him now. Only someone of the imperial bloodline ever inherited the rights to be Dominant of Bahamut. Brushing his worries aside, he escorted both of them to the castle gates as promised. Careful not to jostle either of them from where they were clinging to his sides.

However, he didn't account for an unwillingness to part when Dion's minders found them. The boy hid behind him, pouting as he said, "I want to stay." It was cute. No doubt, Clive thought, because Dion didn't want to separate from a new friend. Joshua was lucky.

Joshua didn't see it like that, scowling at the other boy and hugging Clive with more force than necessary. At least there was no concern of him falling ill this trip, not with that strength. "My brother," Joshua said with a forced dictation that spoke of his trouble to find the words, "is not yours."

Bemused, Clive patted him on the head again. "Joshua. His Highness wishes to stay with you."

"Ah," Dion spoke up, voice shy as he said, "and you too. I would like to -" There was a pause and then the boy blurted out, "I would like to marry you. Father says I must have the most beautiful person at my side."

Clive opened and closed his mouth, unable to find a response. He turned to the prince's minders, serious, as he said, "I believe Prince Dion has been in his cups as well. Please see that he rests."
