The former Melbourne Mint, 1869-72, designed by JJ Clarke (who also did the Old Treasury & the Old Melbourne Baths) based on Rome’s Palazzo Vidoni-Caffarelli, 1515-36, by Raphael (or more likely Lorenzo Lotto). Now the intriguing #HellenicMuseum - must get to it!! Fascinatingly this was also the site of Melbourne’s first Exhibition Building, 1854-68, a ‘temporary’ glass structure that was used even after a better replacement was built in 1866 (where the State Library’s great dome is now).
