anyway 10k of hell including bad first impression sounds like a goddamn dream. Tbh the canon meeting minus metaverse works - Yusuke stops Ann & invites her to the show, Ryuji & protag come with, the whole 'model’ thing EXCEPT Ann goes like 'hell no’ & everyone’s like 'this is a fair choice which we all respect’ but Yusuke asks if he can, like, sketch her doing daily life things because the PROBLEM with her modeling is that he can’t capture the motion & energy that was so compelling about her, he thinks sketching her in a more natural setting would be inspiring, also, he’s getting anxious because Madarame needs another painting soon and Yusuke’s being pushed to some limit (but nobody knows this yet). So it turns into a day out with all four of them, Ryuji and Yusuke snipping at each other while Ann kind of semi-mediates and protag either calming them down or instigating shenanigans. Starts out very THIS IS FOR ART but then while getting crepes Yusuke admits that he’s never had one, it’d be much too extravagant, and ppl are like Uh. Hm. The shack was… pretty old. And that basically swings Ryuji from 'ATTACK’ to 'ppprrroootect..????’ because Ryuji’s just almost instinctively 'wait a second is this?? Someone I have to look out for???’ And then it dissolves from ART to four kids having fun and slowly getting their new pal acclimated to positive social experiences among peers. They start to hang out more tho it always starts off with Art (and also Yusuke won’t get involved unless there’s something 'productive’ attached) and there’s an undercurrent of Hey, Something Seems Wrong Here, and then Ryuji stumbles onto a situation where Yusuke pushed himself Too Much For Art and Ryuji tells Yusuke that the art he makes doesn’t matter as much as taking care of himself & that’s a turning point for them to get closer and for Ryuji to be actually really definitely Looking Out For Yusuke and for Yusuke to examine all the stuff abt self-worth he’s internalized as a direct result of being exploited but he’s still grappling with a lot of stuff and the other kids hunt around and find a formal pupil and Yusuke has a reunion with them, Yusuke sees what Madarame did to that person’s life & is very “what happened to you was terrible” & after a long talk Yusuke realizes that yeah, he’s being used in the same way, & is resolved to find an escape & to break free and to bring madarame to justice for what he’s done. Which is way harder w/o the metaverse but they manage to expose madarame as a fraud with like, recordings, leaked expenses (like w the mansion he actually lived at), the sayuri room, & it’s a Rough Time. Of course throughout this whole thing the not p thieves become friends and ryuji & Yusuke fall in love. This got long

I still feel p robbed that we have like. all these potential hints for interaction. what if they talked during the fireworks festival. WHAT IF THEY ROOMED TOGETHER DURING THE SCHOOL TRIP. without the p thieves it'd be so much harder for Haru to connect with everyone else I feel like it'd be the slowest burn possible

It’s additionally upsetting for Ryuji because even though he’s impulsive, he actually tamps down a lot of it. The Kamoshida incident was a breaking point, not a moment of impulse. Ryuji’s a character that reacts but there’s something about him that sort of balances his directionless & general Vibes into some focused intent; someone shoves into him, he’s gonna have his hackles raised & tell them to back off, but he’s not going to Throw Down until he’s pushed into it. So seeing someone who looks just like him actually letting loose all his destructive impulses probably makes him feel angry because he keeps most of the worst shit in check, a little jealous because he *has* to keep most of the worst shit in check, and disgusted with himself for being jealous. @maxiesatanunofficial it’s honestly incredible how atlus consistently writes compelling and engaging and kind dude characters while fucking them over every other line. how much of this is writing-writing and how much of this is atlus-writing? What bits of canon can be filtered for the sake of meta? What scenes are relevant to a robust interpretation? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
