i’ve been very curious about these questions for a while: are species/creatures created through king seeds blood related to the king who makes them? Are the Aguilles or the Hekatons blood related to Aldebaran? It seemed like Cadmium was considered Antony’s kid. Did Aldebaran ever view the species he created as his children?
That's kind of a tricky answer for me because like.. yes and no. There clearly ARE some overlap and influences from the parent and it also depends ON the new species itself. The new species & what they can do are also dependent on who the king is and what they are able to do.. but also what they ate. So it can be a very wide pool of genetics to create something very fundamentally different, to a degree where they would not be able to create offspring with worms for example. At least not usually, there are exceptions (Dollop can if she wished.)
I'd say Hekatons are much less blood related to Aldebaran than Aiguille and much more based on his diet and.. gut biome? Of course, this is very speculative and weird alien scifi biology, but I always kind of considered them to be.. somehow more drawing from the chemical "waste" and amino acids of the Worm. Digestion IS fundamentally the most powerful aspect of the worm and it's shapeshifting, so a creature that is basically ALL tissue and a very dense, indigestible, flammable liquid feels appropriate that it might stem from those things. Does it really make sense tho? I am not sure. I don't even think Aldebaran knows how he managed to make it work - but he's pretty proud of his skill regardless. Although, Knife still made him very angry with how he disobeyed his commands and ruined his chance to control the Hekatons for himself. They were passed down to Evil Mother instead.
Cadmium is MUCH more genetically related to Antony (or specifically, Canary) and Celadon and would be considered a descendent, although she is not a worm. I wont disclose what kind of species she could have offspring with but she is a similiar case to what Dollop can do.. but in a different way, i guess.
Aldebaran did not consider any of his created species his "children" .. except for the Aiguille. He mostly used it as a joke to creep Rowan out but he was in love with Rowan in a very worm-obsessed kind of way. So his jokes had more truth to it than he was actually being honest about. I think Rowan kind of understood that too.. which made it creepy and he disliked/felt guilty over it. Aldebaran is just NOT subtle and does not have a good poker face with these things, especially around Rowan who has known him basically his whole life.
