The timing of their meeting had been unfortunate for both parties involved -- with Anya being so new to England after escaping the site of her familiy’s execution, and Matthew returning from the front, but seriously injured. She wouldn’t have thought to find herself so attached to him, but here she was, completely and utterly in love. Perhaps it was because they had both found themselves in need of healing at the same time.Â
He’s to go up to London, which by all accounts should not be worrying her as much as it does, and yet, it does. Matthew has been a constant for her after so much loss. She can’t blame herself for not wanting him to go, especially since she could not go, not since she doesn’t yet have full protection from the crown. “Are you absolutely sure that you have to go? Can’t you just say that your legs are bothering you, make them come here? Surely they would. You fought in a war, for the side that won. That must count for something to them.”
