This wasn’t what Charlie had imagined when they thought about what ‘outside’ must be like. They imagined grass and trees and lots of sunlight. Well… They got the last one? Too much though, their eyes weren’t used to it and the heat burned their too pale skin. The asphalt under their bare feet was almost hot enough to blister and the air smelled like exhaust this close to the highway. Charlie wasn’t even sure how they’d gotten out of the facility, they just woke up in an underpass and had been trying to find actual shelter while still avoiding people. Eventually, their little legs did carry them to a residential neighborhood, where there was grass and trees but still too much sun. A backyard would have to be good enough for now… they hadn’t run around this much before, Char was so tired…

Vlad was taking his daily walk around the grounds when he saw a kid? In the distance? Someone had to have left the gate open. He’d be mad but it looked like the poor child wasn’t in the best of shape, maybe they were sunburned. Also they looked somewhat familiar so he probably should take care of them on principle. Maybe he was a kid of a friend or business associate or something.

He walked up to them and gently tapped their shoulder.
