Made my own reviewer for Clinical Medicine: HEENT
I also made my Serenitea-inspired Aloha drink! Hahaha! Passion fruit jam + Jasmine Green tea ✨
Block 6 is off to an... interesting start. The first thing we did this morning was the same as every first anatomy lab of the block, we removed the skin in the area of the dissection. Except this block is HEENT, so this involved effectively slicing a mans face off. I was in the locker room crying within 5 minutes. I spent the rest of lab learning the minutia of a skull I signed out while the rest of my table did the dissection. Luckily I had taken endocrinology in undergrad so I actually did well on today's quiz despite it being quite difficult. Then we had some long hours of lecture after which I went to go grab the skull that I had accidentally left in anatomy lab... and it was gone. So now I'm terrified of getting kicked out of medical school for losing human remains... But then I went to a care of the underserved scholars meeting where we got to learn all about std testing and clinics and talking about sex. It was nice but then I got super lost on my way home because I ran out of data and can't buy more data without data or wifi. Of course. So now I'm home and it's bedtime and I've done zero homework. Yay.
need to get through this heent packet before hitting the gym
gotta get head. ba-dum-tssss

PA School - S2W3: Stress Test HEENT
This week will likely be stressful... thr first week of real stress in my program.
Monday morning: "checkoffs" for HEENT exam. We have 20min to properly and efficiently complete each part of the physical exam for the head eyes ears nose throat neck lymph nodes and sinuses on a classmate patient.
Wednesday: My first OSCE - over HEENT of course. We walk in to the exam room and are given the patient s chart containing their vitals and chief complaint. We must gather the correct history perform the correct physical exam, diagnose the patient and offer appropriate treatment methods, meds and education. Then go to the next room and write a SOAP note.
Friday: Written final exam for HEENT.
Whew its gonba be a lot - last week my study habits were sub par and a busy weekend didn't quite let me catch up. Never again!!
Cheers
PA School: S2W2 - HEENT
Enjoying the HEENT (Head, Ears, Eyes, Nose and Throat) module so far! Reviewed anatomy and have covered H&P for eyes, nose, mouth and sinuses as well as diseases of the eye.
Today we were able to put our ophthalmoscopes and otoscopes to practice in lab where we were able to we showed what have learned - this will help prepare us for our first OSCE (Objective Structured Clinical Examination) next week. It was great to peer into the eyes mouth and nostrils of classmates :-)
This is what you're supposed to look like....
This is what you're supposed to see....
and this is what I looked like at first...
then.... I SAW IT!
Next week we will have cow eyes in lab to learn various procedures that require a learning curve that just cant be taught in lecture - such as removing a shallow foreign body from the cornea - or placing a morgan lens for eye irrigation.
HEAD-TO-TOE ASSESSMENT PART ONE:
heent assessment:
This is a really good heent exam example. It's through, and covers most of what you need to know/demonstrate for your assessment class final.
Remember, this is only the first part of a complete head-to-toe assessment ( :
