Ah okay. I agree with you, as a latina with black friends, their experience living in a place where there is a majority of latinx would be different than if they where white. A white person brings a different perspective to the table, and thats not who Benny's character was written for
Yeah, I mean, it could be worth exploring how marginalized individuals such as latinx people feel about the privileged living in their neighborhood, it’s just not Benny. Benny makes you root for him, you feel the injustice of Kevin’s treatment and you wonder why he can’t just accept that he’s a cool guy. That’s pretty much the opposite of what I think Lin would have written if he thought Benny could be white? Like look at King George in Hamilton, the only white character (and Samuel Seabury I’ve heard, but they’re in the same camp).
Did they recently cast Benny as white? (Coincidentally im listening to the ith soundtrack rn)
Not in official productions (that I know of? I don’t think Lin would allow it) but I’ve seen amateur productions do it.
