#headlessbliss

So I started reading the webcomic "Headless Bliss" by artist Clover. I knew of this comic for the better part of a decade now since I followed their previous webcomic "Go Get a Roomie" which kinda referenced this comic ocassionally (GGaR is a great queer comic but also adult content). I wanted to read it years ago but didn't make it past the starting pages, now I come back and I must say.

Clover never disappoints me. This comic is simply a beautiful piece of art, page by page.

The story follows a demon princess who loves stories and has weird dreams instead of nightmares. She meets a lady that is not truly a demon but instead a story about a demon come to life, she travels through many worlds looking for the human realm and an end to her story. It's genuenly incredible seeing all these wonderful characters interact. Like the Demon Queen, who is very fun to see while also very intimidating with how powerful she seems. While also being very funny to see whenever she shows up. She rules this place and she knows it.

What can I really say? it's so far incredible, though of course, not for everyone. Compared to the other comics by Clover, this one has very explicit dark tones, with things such as cannibalism and murder being in the front at times. I personally also dont mind the humor as I really enjoy Clover's writing, but I can see how to some it could be a bit on the nose at times.

A webcomic that I have been making since around 2015, and will probably finish around 2025. 

This is a wild ride to get on, and isn’t the easiest story to follow! But if you like surreal realms of nightmares, flying whales and floating mirrors of Truth, if you enjoy humor laced with dark and tortured souls, and meta themes of stories story-telling... you might just find something in Headless Bliss.

The story starts in the demon lands, where a certain Queen of Nightmares, who rules in the best Chaos that she can.

Princess Annùn is her daughter and heir to the throne, they don’t look much alike but it’s true. Annùn finds herself in conflict with how darkness is seen in the demons & nightmares world, and how others might see it, or how others might suffer from it.

This interior conflict of hers is only encouraged by her dear friend Sinaj, whom she loves very much. Sinaj is a demon(??) who cannot stand violence of any kind, and would very much like to find the human world.

Both of them leave the demon lands to travel worlds, with their ever so gentle and sane companion: Asile the cannibal human. 

And let’s not forget her loving sister whom she takes care of so well, Oishi. (yes, that is her she is having a normal conversation with!) These two inseparable twins have a past of their own, and have no idea how they’ve been dropped into these other voodoo shit worlds.

Annùn, Sinaj, Asile and Oishi are now travelling companions, whether they like it or not. Some really really don’t like it.

Headless Bliss holds many more mysteries still to solve (too much?) and threads are waiting to be connected for the web to work.

Headless Bliss is another lovely story by the amazing Chloé C. This particular one is very different from Go get a Roomie which I reviewed way back when.

This webcomic takes place in a world of demons, chaos, and cruelty. Our protagonist is a young demon princess by the name of  Annùn who wakes up from a lovely dream one morning, the problem is demons aren’t supposed to dream. They have nightmares. Annùn heads off to class and is promptly thrown out for sassing the teacher aft which she stumbles upon a small portal and is thrust into the wastelands where she meets another demon, or at least she thinks it’s another demon, named Sinaj.

In truth, Sinaj is an abandoned and unfinished story looking for something that may possibly lead to her ending. What this means for Annùn who has grown incredibly attached to Sinaj only time can really tell.

This is a very metaphysical kind of comic, centering on more of a concept given personification. While the main character is very lighthearted and joyful, the atmosphere itself is rather dark and gruesome. It foreshadows even darker moments later on but holds a bit of light in how the two heroines care for one another. How this story plays out is a mystery to me as it is to you, and I am genuinely happy that it is the way it is.

The art, where Go get a Roomie was incredibly stable and grounded, Headless Bliss has a very chaotic kind of flow to it. If I had to describe it I would say it feels like a river that is rushing in every possible direction at once, chaotic and frightening, but still has a flowing nature at its essence. The world Chloé has painted is stunningly beautiful, but also incredibly terrifying. when it needs to be.

All in all Headless Bliss is a wonderful comic with dark and light in balance and I am happy to see one of my favorite artists evolving and continuing to put their amazing stories into the world.
