For the headcanon asks, could you please do 💪 and 🦋 (the one about a memory)? Thank you!
Thank you so, so much for the ask. I'm ready excited about it.
Though you gave me something to think about, I hope it won't disappoint. You didn't say for which character, so I'd decided both :)
💪 What random skills are they weirdly proud off?
Cora
Holimoli, this one was difficult. I had like three M-rated skills instantly, but none other.
Here's the thing, I don't think Cora is a person who is particularly proud as a person. But that wasn't the question, it just made it harder. I like a challenge.
It's certainly not needlework. But again, not the question, although I have a very fun headcon about that.
Okay now let's get serious:
Cora lets very few people know, she just doesn't like people talking about her like that. She has a great balance. There's nothing that sways her easily. When she was younger she loved to balance over fallen tree trunks. Even once she's older if there's a chance for balancing and if only Robert's around she tries her hand at it.
There's no pavement too uneven and no dance move too dangerous, because her balance always kicks in. She always catches herself when she's about to twist her ankle or fall.
Except that one time. (I'm sorry I didn't mean to go there, it just happened).
Robert
(Disclaimer: Alcohol is a drug and harmful for everyone)
That being said, I feel like Robert is proud that he knows exactly how much alcohol his body can endure and know his limits. And, more importantly, knows exactly how much to drink in what situation - and fake being sober if needed (that he learned in Eton). He's never had a real hangover, either. It drives Cora mad and he secretly enjoys it, when she starts to get nervous that he has too much. But it never happens, he always stops right before he'd reach his limit.
🦋 What seemingly insignificant memory do they cherish the most?
(This was difficult because they were so much, from so many different stations in their life. I decided to do one from their youth and a Cobert one)
Cora
They were still living in Cincinnati. It was a cold day and Cora couldn't get warm, even with a thick fur blanket. They were on their way back home and the carriage ride didn't seem to end. When Isodore saw her shivering, he changed seats with Harold and took her on his lap. He told her to snuggle up and put the blanket back over them, then held her tightly in his arms until they got home. He even carried her in, right up to the fireplace.
Cobert memory:
Three months into their marriage. When they were going through and didn't split for the evening, Robert put his hand on the small of her back, while they walked into the library. Not stopping the conversation with James. It had been a fleeting moment, but enough to make her feel cared about.
Robert
He was a young lad, home for the holidays. He had snuck away, well not really, it was a gorgeous day and he decided to go for a walk without telling anyone about it. On the outskirts of the village were a couple of boys, playing cricket. He stood and watched them for a while. A little jealous that they seemed to have such a good time and he felt rather lonely.
Suddenly one of them looked up "Oy, we're short a player, you up?"
The boy asked not looking twice, apparently not knowing who he was. Not that Robert blamed him, puberty had hit him rather harshly in a short time. And to his shame, he knew his mother would be disappointed, he didn't know who the boy was either.
One of the other boys, from the looks of it, it could be Billy Turner, wanted to reprimand the other boy for inviting the viscount like that, but before he could, the young Crawly had nodded and ran over there enthusiastically.
"Your mum force you to wear your Sunday bests?" A boy, he didn't know either, asked when he saw his clothes.
Robert guessed they were visitors, maybe cousins of the young William Smith who lived a couple of housee down the road. They looked similar at least. Marcus, he was pretty at least that it was Markus Holland, wanted to clear up the misunderstanding, but Robert just laughed and took the bat. "Something like that. Hi, I'm Robert. Whose turn is it?" He tried to bring the conversation back to the game and it worked. And suddenly he had spent his whole afternoon playing Cricket and joking around with other boys, who didn't know or had forgotten about his status. He had to run back to the house and got in trouble for disappearing like that, but it didn't matter.
Even decades later, when he sees one of the men he smiles to himself. He doubts they remember that one particular afternoon, for him it's a core memory of his childhood.
It was one of the few times, apart from being with Cora, that he felt completely like himself when he was with other people.
Cobert memory:
It had been a dreadful dinner. And Robert wanted to be anywhere but at this table, in this house. It was the first time he was sitting at the middle of the table, Cora opposite of him and they were Count and Countess. It was too soon and he was not ready. But then she caught his eyes and nodded at him with a soft smile on her lips. It was enough encouragement he needed to get through the dinner.
Later that night he kissed her as a thank you for being the support he hadn't known he needed.
