How does he do that? Do reploids have lungs? Does he do it to de-stress like a human? Does it damage his internals in the long way?
The phenomenon itself is based off real world mechanics that have researchers question of " can robots feel high " , which they can display symptoms on par with addiction. In short, it's essentially an AI hacking is own reward system, and it's both being studied and it's mentions by science fiction writer's Larry Niven work in 1969.
Now, how does this apply to Zero ? Admittedly, I use cigarettes primarily as they're understood as a concept be everyone, but admittedly, they'd probably microdose on various types of computer viruses — with more illicit " substances " being more major viruses that could 100% brick a reploid ( imagine getting bricked by an FBI ransomware or even the Chernobyl computer / CIH virus. That's likely an OD for a reploid ). Safety measures probably work on par with an internal virtual machine to mitigate risk, but admittedly ? It isn't 100% safe. So likely, it's something along those lines, but made to mirror e - cigarettes instead of sticking USBs wherever, as to appear socially acceptable in human standards, rather than a reploid. Though, the visualization of USBs being akin to hard drugs is admittedly a funny concept, given how bizarre it is in a human scope. Though, there could also be things similar to the Redkey USB wiper, which is used to completely erase the hard drive, so maybe some reploids use that to avoid criminality, but that's me rambling.
But if we want to go fully traditional cigarette, I'd imagine it's a case of their artificial intelligence recognize the structure within these products, cross referencing the effects listed, and essentially lighting up the " reward center " equivalent that mirrors how humans metabolize drugs ( even if reploids do not do so in the traditional sense ) .
As for lungs ? I will say as someone who actually took IT a while back ( granted, I only understood the hardware side but do my own repairs on things like vintage consoles ) , that, the cooling system — case fans and heatsinks — are essentially their " lungs " . It essentially allows the flow of cool air, and " exhales " hot air in order to keep the machinery working in optimal conditions ( this is extremely simplified btw ) . I don't 100% understand watercooling, as I'm not a big PC peron, but I'd imagine X and Zero in underwater stages does benefit them.
As for the actual mechanics, I Don't want to touch that as I got tired of reading about machines like the iron lung.
Anyways, I've always called this system ventilators / ventilation units. Since like, 2020 I wanna say ? Maybe even far earlier, this is a very old idea of mine I chip at on occasions.
But yes. It is to destress. Mechanisms aside now, it absolutely does damage his internals — think of it like a computer getting dusty. You need to clean them, as dust gathers ; more heat in a computer means the clock speed is reduced as to avoid potential damage or even hardware failure by the machine itself as a protection. Too much heat damages electronics, after all ( I learned this as a kid with my iPod, I'm old ). Once again, this is an insanely simple explanation.
With cigarettes, it'd essentially the tar and smoke that reduces the affectiveness of a machine ( smoke is very very bad for PCs, so don't do drugs mkay ? ) . Unlike a human, it is capable of being removed, albeit, incredibly difficult and requires a lit of patience and work. If there's plastic internally in a reploid, they're just stuck being stained. It layers on and stains everything in tar, so it is used for relaxation, but like a human, it leads to extremely negative concequences and stunts ability to " breathe " ( and thus cool off ) .

• The part where their speaker-head and neck merge/form together are extremely sensitive/ticklish. This goes for the whole faction, including the woofers and titan speakerman. (So if you just poke one in the neck they would just react like the image below)

• The speakermen like to take random sticky notes they find in abandoned/destroyed houses in the city and randomly slap them onto the tvmen and cameramen’s lenses and/or screens, and then mischeviously run off, leaving the poor victim confused. (They also write or sketch random things in the sticky note, like a smiley face or a lil’ message.)
• They like collecting old things like toy model cars, figurines, and baseball/basketball cards. (Titan speakerman collects regular-sized cars since they look like model cars to him, and lets some speakermen and maybe a woofer get in the car and then just pushes them around for pure enjoyment when they’re bored)
• They(meaning the regular speakermen and the woofers) like to annoy their titan from time to time by blasting random music when they least expect it, and sometimes the woofers(usually 3-4, maybe 5) decide to gang up on poor titan speakerman and wreck the absolute shit out of his ribs, stomach, neck and waist. (They also do this when they sense that their titan is sad. Like after titan speakerman got un-infected, they all just ganged up on him and wrecked his shit).
• They like to watch the sunset together(like sometimes after a hard, tiring day, Titan speakerman would pick up some of the woofers and regular speakermen by holding them in his arms, then take them to a quiet place somewhere and then just watch the sunset until they fall asleep).
