It makes sense, but I hate the idea of Snape smoking as an adult because he would know just how addictive and awful it is for your sense of smell/taste (which is important while brewing potions). Also, I don’t think he’d taste very good (as a romantic partner for kissing and such) if he was a smoker (and smoking just permeates everything you wear and everything you own, even if you don’t smoke indoors).
