“Well that was fun,” Damon smirks and I laugh.

“You call running into a group of rogue witches, fun?” Stefan asks in disbelief.

“All in a day’s work and you two still get to have fun at school,” Damon pours two glasses of bourbon and hands one to me.

“You know you’re becoming a bad influence,” Stefan sighs.

Damon smirks, “Stefan, live a little.”

“I bet you drank in 1864,” I say.

Stefan rolls his eyes and walks out

Damon walks toward me and tucks a piece of my hair behind my ear. I lean in and we start kissing. As I pull back a beam of light cuts through the room and I wince.

Damon turns his head and looks into my eyes, “What’s wrong?”

I shake my head and throbbing pain pierces my head, “It’s nothing.”

Damon scans me as Stefan walks back in, “Y/N, we should go. School starts soon.”

I turn around and Stefan hands me my bag. We start walking out the door when Damon vamp speeds in front of me, “You should stay here in case any of the witches come back.”

“Damon, I am going to school and living a normal life.”

I walk into history class and Mr. Saltzman’s brow furrows. He starts talking to the class and I pull out my notebook, but my hands start sweating and everything blurs out.

Stefan touches my arm and I jump. The whole class is piling it out the door.

“You okay?”

I nod and Stefan opens his mouth, but Mr. Saltzman interrupts, “Y/N, stay back please.”

Stefan looks at me and I shake my head. He nods and walks out the door.

Mr. Saltzman looks at me, “Were there any complications last night?”

I move and lean against the window, as the Sun was not helping the pounding in my head. “No, we got most of them. We’re hunting down the rest tonight. We’ll need some more herbs though.”

“I’ll bring some by the boarding house after school. I can call Damon, you don’t look well.”

“No, I’m fine. Really,” I walk out the door and head to lunch.

I slump down onto the table and search through my bag, waiting for the others.

“Are these what you’re looking for?” Damon holds up my sunglasses and I nod. He slips them on me and says, “Ric told me you said you were fine, which is what you say when you aren’t, so we’re going.

I stand up, “Damon…”

“You’re my girl and I need to protect you.”

As we walk into the living room, I take off my sunglasses and I feel my eyes contracting. “Damon.” He turns towards me as my vision goes black and I fall.

Seconds, later my eyes blink open as Damon’s concerned, blue eyes enter my vision, his mouth is moving but I don’t hear anything. I close my eyes.

The throbbing in my head brings me back to consciousness. Soft sheets are under me and I smell Damon’s cologne. I open my eyes and see him looking at me, “Sleeping beauty awakens, how are you feeling?”

I start to push myself up, “Fine, I just need---”

Damon pushes me back down, “You’re not leaving this bed, until you’re feeling better.”

He reaches into his jacket pocket and pulls out Excedrin.

“How’d you know?”

Damon rolls his eyes, “You had this on a different shelf, so I figured it was important, so I googled it, and it made sense. By the way, you texted your aunt saying you were sleeping over at Bonnie’s so don’t worry.”

I nod and rub my neck hard as Damon hands me some water. Damon’s eyes flicker to my neck and he asks, “What hurts?”

I swallow the pills and mumble, “My neck and head.”

Damon lays on the bed next to me and I put my head on his chest as he whispers, “Go back to sleep.”

I start to object, but he starts massaging the back of my neck and I groan and fall back asleep.

I open my eyes and the throbbing in my head has lessened. I peek through the blinds and see the full moon. Grateful, I can tolerate the light, I realize my migraine is almost over. I walk down the stairs and notice a silhouette in the living room.

“Mr. Saltzman?”

Mr. Saltzman turns around, “Y/N, glad to see you’re feeling better. Damon and Stefan are hunting down the remaining witches, Damon asked me to stay here.

I nod, “Did they bring anyone else?”

“Don’t worry, they’ll be fine.”

I unscrew the lid on the bourbon and pour myself a glass, sitting down on the couch, I say, “I should have gone with them.”

I start to take a sip of bourbon, when suddenly it’s plucked out of my hands.

“You know I am your teacher right? And you were in no shape to fight, you would have been a liability.

“Do most teachers hunt down supernatural creatures with their students?”

Mr. Saltzman sips the bourbon and hands me a glass of water, “Water will help more than this.”

I sip the water and start reading one of my books that’s on the end table. Mr. Saltzman pulls out some papers and we sit like that for an hour or so when Damon and Stefan appear back in the living room. I stand up and scan both of them. Stefan asks, “How are you feeling?”

Damon looks at me as I answer, “Better. Thank you.”

Ric packs up and says, “When we find the werewolf lair, I’m coming with you until then, try not to get in too much trouble. Good night guys.”
