i don't read THAT much fanfic so i don't really know what other people's opinions tend to be on like... how well grace was holding up when he got to erid. but it seems like a common opinion is that he was actively dying of malnutrition at that point or otherwise just suffering bad. (...i think in the book it's ambiguous when that actually started to become a problem, but i don't entirely remember?) anyway regardless of how much canon i might have accidentally fucked up, i'm glad that i wrote his arrival on erid to be pretty nice! because i just love the idea of grace making contact with the rest of the eridians and being well enough to really communicate with them and problem-solve together and have fun before everything takes a turn for the worse
