Hazemaze Herald 3rd LP with Dark, Fuzzy New Single
~Doomed & Stoned Debuts~
By Billy Goate
If you've enjoyed the last two albums by Stockholm doomers HAZEMAZE, watch out because a third album is on the way this winter and...the darkness is coming. 'Blinded By The Wicked' (2022) is an artistic product of Lockdown frustration which found relief in a flurry of creative output. Its lyrical themes that are frank, reminding us of uncomfortable human tendencies and social realities.
Says the band:
In the year of the pandemic, we decided to finally put our efforts towards writing a new record. As the year progressed and the world got darker, so did our songwriting. For this record, we wanted to continue to follow the same dark thematic approach as our previous release, but even more sinister and complex. 'Blinded by the Wicked' explores cults and their leaders' malevolent intentions that corrupted the weak minded.
That's got my interest locked-in on theme alone, but we're about to get a taste of what the new record sounds like, as well. Hazemaze collaborated with a good friend on the recording, Timmy Ternestål at Studio Ingenstans in Strängnäs, Sweden. They consider this "a more mature sound" that offered them the freedom to "explore new elements" of heaviness and artistry. Their core style remains, bearing influence on their beloved Sabbath from which springs forth a wealth of menacing riffs and pushes the medium into darker places.
Today, Doomed & Stoned is proud to bring you the first single taken from that album, of which the Hazemaze tells us:
“In the Night of the Light, for the Dark” tells the grim and sinister acts of Marcus Wesson where his family paid the ultimate price for his God complexitality. It was the first song that we wrote together, right after our last show with The Gates of Slumber, which was also our last show before the pandemic turned the world upside down. We wanted to capture that early '80s Trouble and Saint Vitus but with a touch of modernity. The result became a Sabbathian hymn that will take you on a morbius and riff-worshipping trip like no other song that we have ever written."
All eyes are affixed to January 21st, 2022, when Blinded by the Wicked will be revealed in all its fullness on Heavy Psych Sounds (pre-order here). Until then, a vivid sonic experience awaits in this five-and-a-half minute terror, which reflects upon the depths of human depravity.
Give ear...
