Justine stared blindly at the wall across their table. A cigarette was dimly lit in one hand, but its light started to fade as it dangled aimlessly in her fingers before she finally brought it back to her lips. Anyone passing by might have thought this looked like a woman who had gone through a great trauma; like one who just received divorce papers and decided to drink just enough to clock out of her feelings.

Toilet paper roll spins forwards or backwards? 

It spins forwards because of course it does what sort of backward fool has it spinning… backward. The hint is in the very word itself. Why are you making life needlessly difficult for yourself?

What sleeping position do they find themselves in most often?

Anica often sleeps on her side or on her back; perhaps out of habit, with needing to wake up and move quickly, at the slightest, in the past. Nowadays, she finds herself gravitating towards her boyfriend; whom she shares a bed with. It’s for the best, as they would otherwise be stuck in a nightly struggle for the duvet.

Now, am I saying that I think Anica is the “big spoon”? Despite being closer to a foot shorter than Dragomir? Yes. Yes I am. She can be pretty clingy in her sleep, so it’s a good thing that she can sleep through his snoring.

Does your muse have a favorite book?

To ask Anica to choose a favourite book is to ask her to choose a favourite child, but there are still some which she holds very near and dear to her heart:

- While owning many, many anthologies and editions of Eminescu’s works, both in poetry and prose, one piece of prose that stands out to her is “Umbra mea/My shadow”. You then have the legendary tale of “Făt-Frumos din lacrimă”; Romania’s mythological depiction of Prince Charming. In times of hopelessness and hardship, Anica has found great comfort in the fantasy of folklore and fairytales.

- “Amintiri din copilărie/Childhood Memories” by Ion Creangă is a memoir, and largely considered to be his literary masterpiece. It tells his story of a rebellious childhood in an idyllic Moldavian village, before training for priesthood in a more urban setting in adult life. Funnily enough, Anica identifies with a lot of the themes and the narrative of this book, which helps her feel closer to her people.
