while Cliff doesn't have a favourite child among the gaggle of Pike kids, Jade is incredibly fond of him. Not only because he plays SUPERB Kill The Orc without having to explain the rules, but because he is funny, reasonably smart (her words, not mine) and brings a lightness into the family that fundamentally changes their lives. (And with 6 sisters, Cliff knows how to braid hair, knows all the girly 90s tv shows by heart and is not ashamed to dress up as Rufus from Kim Possible for Halloween.)

Cliff and Moss have a seperate groupchat to rant about their favourite Pikes because Jackie and Hayden are crazy™. Surpisingly (or unsurprisingly to anyone who knows him) Ilya has weasled himself into the chat, too. Simply to gather information on how to annoy Hayden more.

Hayden is openly bisexual once they're out, doesn't talk around or hide anymore (he gets horrible messages from his brother and the rest of the family after that), but Cliff never labels himself as anything but "not straight, I guess".

Once Hayden stops Hockey, he volunteers at a queer youth centre when they ask via social media for helping hands when the centre moves and renovate the new place. There he meets a kid that comes from a equally abusive household and they bond. He starts working there for free two times a week and when he's working at the Irina Foundation and the Summer Camp, he pays for the kids of the centre to take part in it.

Hayden and Scott become really good friends, because they're the two people who get bullied (lovingly of course) by Ilya the most. Together, they finally manage to bring the same kind of menace into the mix and give back as good as they get.

Hayden does NOT upload any pictures or videos on social media without at least 2 people checking it over.

I kinda imagine Hollanov's kid (probably adopted) to be Arthur's soulmate.

Both Jackie and Hayden have ADHD, and the rest of the Pike kids are neurodivergent in one way or another, while Cliff is neurotypical.

First time they go on vacations alone, Hayleau are in a little fancy hotel somewhere at a beach and while it is beautiful and lovely to have everything to themselves and enough time to fuck, they're bored out of their minds after 2 days and miss their kids, their cats and dog and...uhhh...even Rozanov...*shudder*. So, the next time they go on vacation, the whole family plus Hollanov go with them and they visit water parks, museums, roadtrip around Spain (author's input: do that if you have the opportunity, best 2 weeks of my life lol).

Hayden is never drinking again.

Or at least he’s never drinking with J.J. again. Hayden knew how to handle his alcohol, but tonight was a different story. The last four tequila shots were all his idea, and now Hayden was paying the price. 

It had been a rough end to the season with Shane out on injured reserve. If it wasn’t for fucking Cliff Marleau, the Voyageurs could have had a better shot in the playoffs, not drowning their sorrows after getting knocked out in the first round. But that wasn’t his current reality. Shane was out with a concussion and broken collarbone, Montreal was eliminated from the playoffs, and Hayden was sitting on the sticky bathroom floor of some club in Boston trying to stop the world from spinning around him.

He pressed his back against the cool metal of the stall and tried to steady his breathing before another wave of nausea hit him. He knew his teammates would just encourage him to “puke and rally” but his body was refusing to cooperate. So instead, he just tried to focus on his breathing. In through his nose, out through his mouth. But his mind kept wandering, thinking about the choices that led to his current situation.

Usually when the Metros went out Hayden stuck with Shane. Shane wasn’t a big partier and didn’t drink much outside of the very occasional celebratory drink, so Hayden was able to use that as an excuse to not get hammered in a random city. It also helped that Shane was one of the only players he hung out with that wasn’t trying to set Hayden up with someone. He appreciated the sentiment from J.J. but they didn’t really see eye-to-eye on Hayden’s “type”.

He was brought back to his current situation by someone pounding on the stall door behind him and a familiar voice cutting through the muffled thumping house music.

“Hey, everything okay in there?” 

The world stopped spinning at that moment. Hayden had heard that voice before, as recently as on the ice a few hours ago.

Cliff: You shouldn't bite your lip like that while showing off that tongue piercing.

Hayden: Are you hitting on me, Marleau?

Cliff: I could turn the flirting up a notch…but I’m trying really hard to behave.

Hayden finishes his drink and stands up

Hayden: unfortunately I have an early flight tomorrow and I have to go. I am also a bit drunk and I would like to remember what would happen if we took this further.

He gets into Cliff’s space and places a hand on his chest, leaning in to whisper in his ear

Hayden: But when you get to your hotel room, in your bed, or in the shower, think about how my piercing would feel on you…And send me a visual of the effect

Cliff is stunned but as Hayden makes a move to leave, he stops him with a firm hand on his waist, making eye contact

Cliff: ok. I will send you a visual, but you will have to send me proof of the outcome.
