Before Lemmy joined Hawkwind and later formed Motörhead, he worked as a roadie for Jimi Hendrix. He was connected through Neville Chesters-Hendrix's road manager-who was living with bassist Noel Redding, and Lemmy happened to be staying on his floor.

Lemmy himself said: "Whenever they needed an extra pair of hands, I was right there... I didn't get the job for any talent or anything." He mostly handled roadie tasks like prepping guitars and tending to stomp boxes destroyed during shows.

Lemmy described watching Hendrix play live "twice a night for about three months. When he performed, he was magic. You would watch him and space and time would stop"

Lemmy recalled being at all the sessions for Axis: Bold as Love, meaning he not only toured with Hendrix but also witnessed the album's creation in the studio.

Hendrix once told Lemmy he would never make it as a lead guitar player. When the bass player failed to show up for a Hawkwind gig, Lemmy stepped in and claimed the slot, which he later described as a pivotal moment in his career shift toward bass playing and fronting a band.
