So.. awhile back i posted a âfileâ from H&H of myself and i decided to expand on the Rescue mission part.. Iâll put it under a read more, cause itâs pretty long.
FAIR WARNING: THERE IS SOME HEAVY STUFF BECAUSE AT THE TIME THIS IS SET, I WAS DEALING WITH HEAVY STUFF.
How long had it been? How many times had she been here? Trapped in this⌠place? It was cold, and lonely. She hated being alone, even though it seemed like the only constant in her life. She didnât even know how sheâd gotten here. It was a dream. It had to be! There was no way she could keep being here, night after night, just⌠waking up in this place.
By now, she knew the routine: Wake up, run, hide and pray to whatever would listen she wasnât found by those⌠things outside. Calling to her, crying out her darkest thoughts and truths: âYouâre weak, worthless, broken. Whoâd ever want to be friends with you? Why would they? There are so many more people out there to play with. So many people who donât have to sit on the sidelines, like the broken misfit you are. Yes, whoâd want to be friends with y o u??â
It was a constant stream that she knew was right. She couldnât remember the first time sheâd showed up here⌠how long a go had it been, truly? She must have been a child at that time, jumping even at the shadows. It shouldnât be like that, she should have been numb to them by now, just like sheâd grown to everyone else. It didnât matter. Nothing did. Why would it? Not like anyone could care about her. Her parents⌠they tried, but they couldnât always be there, and anytime she tried to explain⌠âyouâre not old enough for that.â Or âyou shouldnât tattle on your classmates. No one likes a tattle tell!â ⌠No, it was better this way. The events of the day played in her mind as she hid, trying her best to make herself as small as possible.
Maybe⌠maybe they really were right. They had to hate her because of how stupid she was. Sure, she didnât have 100% health all the time, and sheâd been to the doctorâs office more times than she went to school, and sheâd never thought much of it⌠surly it wasnât her fault for not knowing everything all the time. Could it have been helped?
STUPID, WORTHLESS, BROKEN AND WEAK.
They were screaming at her now⌠it always seemed to end in yelling. She hated it. She hated being so alone and scared. Being yelled at for things beyond her control⌠she knew what she had to do, as she emerged from her hiding spot. The⌠the boy from her class was right. âWhy come to school? Why bother? No one likes you, dumb bitch. Youâd do everyone a favor if you just dropped dead.â
She was tired. She was tired of being scared and alone and yelled at. She couldnât help being born like this! Itâs not... itâs not fair. Those⌠things were closing in now, it was like they were waiting for her to come out. They⌠theyâre holding their hands out now, approaching her like wolves stalking their prey. They were mere moments away, and she started to stretch out her hand towards them, her eyes nearly dead and devoid of all light. And then thatâs when she heard it:
aaaaaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGHHHHH
It was earsplitting, jolting her to look for the source of the not-very-manly-scream. And sure enough, there, a couple dozen feet to the left, was a rather⌠peculiar looking man and... a teddy bear? The Man was reeling away from the bear andâŚ... She began to laugh at the absurdity before her: A fully grown man, screaming in terror from a teddy bear.
The things⌠they werenât happy, and lunged for her now laughing form, and fear took over. What had she been thinking??? She⌠she didnât want to die! Why would she?? If she died⌠then he would win. And she would NOT let. Him. Win.
What followed⌠it was a blur, but she knew at the end of it, those things were gone⌠for the first time in what could very well be years, those Things were gone! All that remained was her, the teddy bear, and the strange man. He was taller than her by a long shot, but she expected it, as she was still only in middle school, and one of the shortest in her class.
He looked vaguely familiar. âFinally. Itâs been quite something, trying to find you. Are you okay?â he said, turning to her. She was taken aback, to say the least. âI- Iâm fine. They didnât hurt me or anything. I... I learned to hide ages ago. Who are you? What were those things?â she said, suddenly both very intruded and timid.
Would this man yell at her to? How could he fight those things? Why had he been looking for her? She half expected him to start yelling about hiding from them, but he just smiled. âWell⌠To start off, those are Terrorlings, Iâd tell you more but itâs not exactly the safest right now. Secondly, Iâm Mark. Are you sure youâre okay? You were going towards the Terrorlings. You only do that if⌠if you really, really arenât okay.â He responded, getting at eye level with her. Moments of stunned silence passed. He... he had put himself in harms way, fought those.... Terrorlings and had asked her if she was really okay, she couldnât take the depth of worry in his eyes⌠the tears started to fall.
How could he? It was so sudden and unexpected, but this⌠Mark guy had come and not only saved her from those.... Terrorlings, but had asked her if she was ok. Thatâs all she ever wanted really; someone to ask if she was okay, if she needed a friend to talk to. She almost didnât realize heâd pulled her into a hug. Everything he said contradicted everything sheâd ever hear. âitâs okay⌠youâre gonna be okay. Donât worry... I got you. Itâs okay now.âÂ
She almost didnât pull away, but something caught her eye. His shirtâŚ. âYou have one too.â She said, pulling away, pointing at his sleeve as she wiped the tears away. His sleeve bore a heart, bright and proud. His was much brighter than hers had ever been, and it lit up the room. âYeah, I do, donât I? Listen, I know you probably have questions, but like I said, itâs not exactly safe right now. I can take us somewhere safer, and you can get looked at to make sure they didnât hurt you. Are you okay to move?â Mark responded with a little goofy smile.
âYeah, Iâm okay.â Was all she could say, trying to straighten herself out with the amount of dignity a small preteen could. Of course, she kept close to Mark, as she regarded him as though a friend. âby the way, why did you start laughing?â he said suddenly, as they started walking away from her hiding spot of who-knows-how-long. It was her time to let out a little chuckle âYou screamed at it. It was so absurd, I couldnât help it.â She said in her usual quiet voice. Â He let out a little chuckle at that. âDidnât catch your name by the way.â He said as they neared a... clearing? What was this place???
âIâm⌠Iâm Cara. Least, thatâs what a friend calls me. My name is pretty long and a lot of people have it, so this is quicker to tell me apart.â She responded with a smile that she hadnât had in years.
