Part 1
Cancer
(originally by My Chemical Romance)
-
Verse 1
Turn away
If you could get me a drink
Of water 'cause my lips are chapped and faded
Call my aunt Marie
Help her gather all my things
And bury me in all my favorite colors
My sisters and my brothers
Still
I will not kiss you
'Cause the hardest part of this is leaving you
Chorus
I will not kiss you (kiss you)
Lips are chapped and faded
Call my (call my)
(Turn away)
Lips are chapped and faded (faded)
Kiss you (kiss you)
Lips are chapped and faded
Call my (call my)
(Turn away)
Lips are chapped and faded (faded)
Verse 2
Turn away
'Cause I'm awful just to see
And all my hairs abandoned all my body
All my agony
Know that I will never marry
Baby, I'm just soggy from the chemo
I'm counting down the days to go
This just ain't livin'
And I just hope you know
Chorus
I will not kiss you (kiss you)
Lips are chapped and faded
Call my (call my)
(Turn away)
Lips are chapped and faded (faded)
Kiss you (kiss you)
Lips are chapped and faded
Call my (call my)
(Turn away)
Lips are chapped and faded (faded)
Bridge
If you say (if you say)
Goodbye today (goodbye today)
I'll ask you to be true (I'll ask you to be true)
'Cause the hardest part of this is leaving you
Yes, the hardest part of this...
Chorus/Outro
I will not kiss you (kiss you)
Lips are chapped and faded
Call my (Call my)
Lips are chapped and faded (faded)
Kiss you (kiss you)
Lips are chapped and faded
Call my (Call my)
Lips are chapped and faded (faded)Â

Part 2
Song Info/Credits: composed by My Chemical Romance from the album The Black Parade, 2006.Â
Label: Reprise
Performed by Twenty One Pilots (cover), 2016.
Arrangement Notes: The primary elements would be the vocals. They composition of this cover is very much dependent on that. The secondary elements would be the drum beats. They are travel with the main vocals throughout the song as other instruments and effects fade in and out. The back ground elements would be the piano, as well as the echoing sounds used to alter the voice slightly. There is also a minor use of back up vocals. There seems to be an added static/âdrainingâ background sound with the vocals.
Lyrical Notes: There is a vivid representation of repetition within this song. The simple lines of âI will not kiss youâ are repeated throughout the entire song. The meaning of those words lie very deeply within the song and message. Although the title does not directly appear in the song, everything is about the thought and experience of cancer. It is a very simple, but powerful lyrical piece. A lot of the lyrics are straight forward, in a sense; which is definitely the aspect that I appreciate most in the song.Â
Opinions/Message: This song is a message about cancer. The thoughts of a person in that situation, their experiences and everything that makes them while dealing with an illness. I think it talks about goodbye and acceptance in âthis is the futureâ. It is a song that makes me extremely pensive. It stirs thoughts of, âwhat ifâs as well as just finding courage in oneself to deal with problems that life likes to throw.
Key Production Moves:
- Echoey Vocals/ Vocal DependancyÂ
- Solid Beat (e.g. drums a constant)
- Soft Background Piano.Â
Key Songwriting Success:
- Simple, straight forward lyrics
- No rhymesÂ
- A repetition of one singular line.
