This is why Veela, and their descendants, are great at communication. They pick up languages quicker than humans. They can read body language, pick up tone inflections, and read a situation in an instant. Nothing escapes them. It was very difficult for Fleur when Bill’s mother and sister were acting so hostile toward her. She picked up on every passive-aggressive (or outright aggressive) tone and action. It struck her hard. She hated that she had to prove herself, just as she always did. But she loves Bill, and she loves that he loves her for her personality more than her looks. She was fierce during the during the Triwizard Tournament; Veela are known to be amazing warriors. Not only because they lure their competitor into a false sense of security, but because they are in-tune with and know their bodies, and their limits.
Their flaw is that they hold grudges. If their dignity is tarnished, or their loyalty is taken for granted, they will never let it go. Sure, they will remain cordial and sweet, but anyone who has wronged a Veela will never feel the same comfort around them as others do. They feel that scorn.
Remembering her crushing defeat at the Tournament, but more importantly, Cedric’s lifeless gaze, Fleur carried this ferocity into the Battle of Hogwarts. She struck down nearly as many foes as a trained Auror, and survived. Despite fatigue and exhaustion, she had the strength to hold Bill as he cried, and the empathy to cry with him. She cried for the lives that could have been. She may only be part Veela, but Fleur Delacour embodies everything that scare and fascinate humans about them. Fierce strength, unwavering confidence, and soft heart.
