how did you go about creating bill's backstory and the characters of flat world, esp liam??? i love it all so much and am super interested in how u developed them
They actually just kind of developed themselves! I mean, I had already a good idea of what Liam was going to be like (heās actually in the story just at the very start), but the others just went on to claim personalities for themselves. It just kind of happened while I wrote. Iām sorry thatās kind of a lame answer!Ā
this is so random but if u don't already have a post bout it could u tell me more about satan in lit??? i got super into satan as a mythological figure in like, the eighth grade and still kinda have a soft spot... thank and gosh bless <3
Oh my gosh I would LOVE to talk about satan in lit! (For anyone who is confused I have a tag here dedicated to it and Iām about to explain why).Ā
So for my senior seminar course (which I took as a junior bc ur girlās got alotta brains or something like that) the topic was Satan in Literature, taught by my favorite professor ever who I love so so so much.
The way it worked was for the first half of the semester we read and read and read a bunch of books sheād chosen that depicted satan in literature. So weāve got your classics: Paradise Lost and Danteās Inferno;Ā we read a nonfiction book called the Origin of Satan by Elaine Pagels which I HIGHLY recommend bc OMG you will learn so much. I actually bought another one of her books (which I have yet to read) right after because sheās such a good writer.
We read this cool book of poetry called Lucifer by Richard Carr which is like a story told through the poems and itās gay so I highly recommend that one, too!
We read other stuff but Iāll only tell you if youāre interested because I havenāt even gotten to the point yet oops!
Anyway, the point of all of the reading in the first half of the semester was to understand and see examples of how Satan has appeared in/is used throughout literature, spanning from the classics to modern day writing.
Since it was my seminar/capstone, I had to write my thesis on the topic (which I loved omfg) so I did devil imagery in Sylvia Plathās poetry. I actually got it published and you can read it by going here and scrolling to page 46!!!Ā
