#nationalbeerday Calls for a video demonstration. I’m known worldwide as the “hard pour” guy. I picked up this habit of pouring from cans and bottles during a @gansettbeer brewery tour in the early 70’s. Now the tour of the old (since torn down) Narragansett brewery was a event of beauty ending with a lecture from the brewmaster. Oh, and, yeah, unlimited samples. I have long since peed out those samples, lager, porter and the Private Stock Malt. The lecture, however, burned into my brain the necessary step of removing the CO2 by executing a hard pour. The brewmaster was adamant on this point. CO2 , he said, is added to canned and bottled solely as a preservative; you don’t see it in kegs, which are transported in more controlled circumstances. Challenged to a taste test that day, as well as several other free tours, I was converted. You get an entirely different mouth feel and less bloat without the gas. So, #hineighborhaveagansett and try it yourself. Pour hard. Allow to settle. Enjoy. Tell the bartender the “Hard Pour Guy” sent you. Cheers. By the way, a hard pour ‘gansett is almost as smooth as the 17 yr old Hibiki.
