I think he's one of those people who would like their parners having mutual feelings towards them, and not be an obedient doll, and that's why Hank so desperately wanted Connor to be alive. I'm just sure that Hank fell in love with him, but he would like his love to be mutual, and not the kind that money can buy. That's why it was so easy for him to believe that two android girls from the club were in love with each other. After all, he wanted to hope that Connor was capable of love too.

If Connor dies, Chloe says it's a shame Connor didn't find what he was looking for. I think she meant love. Because again, I think that Hank and Connor and their love for each other could be a bridge between the android world and the human world.
