Power generation by bicycle has a large number of applications and advantages that can be used to cover many needs of daily life!After developing a first prototype, our pedal power group wanted to present it publicly to get to know its wide range of usage. Every year around May the extensive summer festivals season starts in Germany. Those events are just perfect to spread the word about our pedal power project, since there are huge masses attending and energy is not easily accessible there. In addition, most people have electronic devices such as mobile phones. Usually their batteries do not last very long. We attented the cute and cosy Immergut Festival, held in the city of Neustrelitz on 31th May and 1st June 2013. Thanks to the group Konzertkultour, who invited us to attend the festival, we were able to present our project there. Along with the organization Einleuchtend e.V., which develops solutions based on solar energy, we installed ourselves in the camping area of the Immergut Festival. Our area, which consisted of a tent at the entrance of the festival, offered the chance to charge batteries of all types of electronic devices of the visitors of the festival, most of them mobile phones, but also speakers or cameras. The tent was installed during the two days the festival lasted, and it was a success, people queued for charging their phone! So it was a good idea that we brought a table and benches for clients to wait and feel free to have a snack while enjoying the music of the space generated by solar energy. Our system consisted of two bikes that allowed the loading of approximately ten mobile phones, and everyone could add their bit of pedaling, while changing physical energy to electrical, and then to communication. Isn't that exciting? Apart from the great weather we had, Immergut was just the perfect place to be and we enjoyed the festival very much.
