I saw a HandleBards production of Twelfth Night yesterday and it was so good! Highlights include:
The entire cast being made up of four people, 3 dudes and a girl... with the girl playing male roles only of course
Sometimes the characters were just talking to a piece of clothing, with the cast members switching costumes at lighting speed
The guy who played Sebastian/Viola literally just turned his hat around to switch between the characters
Maid Mariah had balloon boobs that popped in pretty much every scene, and each time she came out the balloons were bigger
All the props were made of bicycle parts
Olivia and Toby were played by the same, very tall, guy and and at one point he was summersaulting across the stage to switch between the costumes (which were held up by two other characters)
Toby drank half my beer while hiding in the audience
Antonio arrested himself at one point
They pulled up a dude from the audience to play an officer, and he was the only one who didn't absolutely loose it during the scene when Olivia was crying into his shoulder
The girl playing Malvolio, Sir Andrew, and Duke Orsino was absolutely brilliant, changing characters at the drop of a hat
The fool started his first scene by flirting with the audience
A brilliant piece of stage direction where the fool is playing a love song on the ukelele and Olivia, Viola, and Orsino are circling him and each one only has eyes for their love interest (best viusal representation of an actual love triangle I've ever scene)
The final scene with all the characters on stage was absolute chaos with Viola/Sebastian having a dialogue with himself, Olivia seriously making out with a hat, and Antonio being represented by a sweater vest for a good chunk of the scene since the actor was also playing the fool and priest
I'm still laughing about it
