DIY Customising Your Hand Splint
Hello
A customer of mine asked me to customise her hand splints as they made her unhappy as they are just not very nice looking as a rule! This is what I came up with in the end:
I am going to do a write up for everyone to see how I did these splints.... hopefully it will mean that more people will have the opportunity to do their own DIY splints. It's not hard, but is it a bit time consuming. If I have to charge for my time properly, it would be just stupidly expensive. I really want this to be available to everyone, not just those who can afford to pay me... also I think these will require some after care and it would be best if you have what materials you have used and need to look after them. I am HAPPY for you to pinch this idea! Splints help you, they shouldn't make you feel unhappy or embarrassed. YOU can make your splint pretty!  And I think there are LOTS of ideas you could explore with these too!!! The only real issue is practicality but you could have really wild ones for going out!!! ^.^
So this is how the splint looked to begin with:
I used a metallic silver spray paint and sprayed the whole thing (on the visible side) including the straps. Resulting in this:
Then I glittered the straps (twice) with silver glitter using a waterproof glue and added some silver sequin leaves to them:
This should be hand washable, though I think it might require another spray paint at some point due to wear and tear. I do NOT recommend enamel spray paint, it remains sticky and doesn't have good coverage. I would check the spray paint can and make sure it works on multi surfaces and/or fabric.
The possibilities for customising are quite endless really but it's very strange when I look up customised hand splints on search engines there seems to be no one doing them and no DIY videos.Â
You could embroider, decorate with lace, metal studs, crystals... just let your imagination run wild but NEVER accept beige!
Hope this blog helps and inspires as we all deserve to feel fabulous and to sparkle!! Any questions just ask!Â
