I think part of the beauty to the secret ending of hanachirasu is because the two of them reconciling and understanding each other is so impossible that admitting their feelings to each other immediately plunges the world into unreality

I cannot put into words how hilarious this image is for a story where the main characters are obsessed with sword duels above all else.
my look into hanachirasu discussions is admittedly extremely limited but i've seen SO many people call the love confession in hanachirasu solely part of the "joke ending" and something that contradicts what came before it, but i believe it's 100% genuine, because akane muses that lying to igarasu now would be unforgivable...
...and igarasu never forgiving him is exactly what he's trying to achieve by saying it. he'll cut out his tongue before he says something that will make him forgive him, he says.
and igarasu does forgive him after the love confession. he dies happy, he dies wishing he'd never let himself hate akane at all.
so it stands to reason that the normal ending is the unforgivable lie, and this confession, the forgivable answer, was always the truth
