Remembering the Hammond Indiana Circus Train Wreck of June 22, 1918 and those lost of the Hagenbeck-Wallace Circus troupe. One of the worst train accidents in history. Of the 400 performers and roustabouts on the train 86 died and 127 were seriously injured. Some died on impact as the trains collided other suffocating and burned to death trapped under the rubble. The caboose was obliterated and the body man riding it was never recovered . A mass grave was dug At Showman’s rest.
