Cripplegate
The area beyond the 'Cripplegate' (one of the gates of the City of London) was also unsurprisingly named Cripplewas. The Barbican estate, built in the 1950s and 60s, now occupies most of the area of Cripplegate, as the area was reduced to rubble by German bombs in WWII.
