Any day the starts off with a new discovery is a good day, and this is no exception. I dug this thing up all bleary-eyed about 4:30AM this morning, and it’s a lovely illustrated ad that reveals UK toy manufacturers Hamley produced a version of “Ask the Glass” around 1905-06. Whether it inspired—or was inspired *by*—the practice of using an upturned glass tumbler and a set of alphabet cards to communicate with spirits as a ‘poor-man’s Ouija board’ is still a little shady to me, as this is contemporaneous with the earliest accounts, but it was certainly produced pretty early in the evolution of that practice. Great stuff! #pastpresentfuture #seance #spiritualism #ouija #talkingboard #asktheglass #spirit #hamley #seance #occult #vishnu #fortuneteller #fortunetelling https://www.instagram.com/p/BrjVS0qluzU/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1367xunje7yrr
Here’s a scan of this latest exploration of the yeti design for my Hamley book. This is pretty close to the look I’m going for, plus I got to experiment with some new rendering techniques.

This is a collection of my 31 ink drawings from Inktober 2017. All the prompts in my list had some connection to the picture book I'm working on, so I'm treating this as a preceding connected piece.
You can grab a copy of Prelude to an Excursion on my Gumroad.
