thank you!! yes, it’s a role reversal! basically, sonic is the ultimate life form and shadow… isn’t. it’s not a 1-to-1 swap though, because shadow doesn’t have super speed (because i don’t think it suits his character). instead, shadow is still able to use chaos control, but it’s more specialized; he can “teleport” using shadows, and creates weapons out of darkness, etc.

on the flip side, sonic’s powers are a little different from what shadow’s are in canon, too. i really like the lightning motif in the movie, so i decided his chaos control centers around that! he’s also still fast. maybe not as fast, but definitely faster than your normal hedgehog lol.

sonic also isn’t edgy. he’s just not that kind of character imo. so, he expresses his grief over maria’s death by throwing himself into heroics. he’s already cocky in canon, just like he’s already dedicated to saving the day, but in this au those traits are ramped up to 11. in essence, his mindset is: no one is ever dying on my watch again.

but… is she really dead? sonic is much brighter character than shadow in more than just palette. i think it would be more in the spirit of his character to have her not actually be dead. of course, he would still think she was until the truth was revealed and he had to go rescue her–and not just from cryosleep, either.

see, sonic would never join GUN. not in a million years. and guess what? they really don’t like that. so, they look for anything they can use against him… and they find maria.

uh @notnights​ made a comic about how Omochao was like the only caretaker sonic and friends have (here is that) so i was like (just sitting there had nothing to do with anything) what if sonic was from NiGHTS world and NiGHTS raised sonic to a point then put Omochao in sonics world to watch over him when NiGHTS could not
