"Well, I think you're being a bit melodramatic, Lucy." Nate took a swig of his firewhiskey, setting the glass down before giving her a careless shrug, "I mean, honestly, the way you're acting... it's like I go out of my way to meddle in your life when in reality, you just seem to always be in my way... almost like you've got a crush on me. Do you have a crush on me, Weasley?" His tone turned teasing now, knowing that nothing infuriated the girl he used to be betrothed to more than him suggesting she had actual feelings for him beyond revulsion.

"Let's see, then, tell me how I've fucked up your life?" Using air quotes to emphasis just how ridiculous he thought she was being, Nate began ticking off what he assumed were his offenses, "The betrothal, maybe? You give me too much credit, Lucy--manipulative and cunning though I am, I was in diapers the same as you when that little agreement was made. You've got no one to blame for that but dear old Dad." He leaned back in his chair, continuing, "Then I suppose you're probably pissed about me telling Percy about Molly's condition--well, as far as I'm concerned I did the girl a bigger favor than either you or James were, thinking you could all handle it yourself. That was a scandal just waiting to blow up in your faces. Not apologizing for that one, I'm afraid." 

He heaved a sigh, a look of faux concern adorning his face as he stood, "As for my alleged--because I was never convicted, you know--casting of the Imperius curse on James, well, you can't blame a man based on circumstantial evidence, can you? At least that's what the Wizengamot says--sure, I was there," He waved a hand dismissively, "But maybe I was just as much a victim as James was! But do I ever get asked how I'm feeling? No." Nate shook his head, lips curling upward into a mocking smile, "Which is--quite frankly--hurtful, Lucy. I know you're mad about your little tea cups, but really..." Nate paused for a moment, then shrugged, a low chuckle escaping him, "All right, I've got no excuse for that. I just did it to piss you off." He stepped back quickly to dodge whatever attack he was sure would be aimed at him for such words. He shouldn't be goading her, but an angry Lucy Weasley was just too much fun. James, after their initial encounter, had turned out to be a lot harder to goad into reacting, but Lucy could always be counted on for that.
