offer had been made on more than one occasion to fly younger sister out to australia ā though her protest had come in the form of reminders of traumatic experience, of which nathan could more than understand. boats had been suggested, but the trip would be far too long (and in retrospect, equally as treacherous) for matilyn to make on her own. it became apparent to others that from a young age the two had formed an attachment to one another ; a dependence of sorts developing as life dealt them obstacle after obstacle. when matilyn had emancipated herself, it was only natural for nathan to take her in. only nineteen āøŗ barely able to take care of himself, let alone a fifteen year old girl. somehow, though, regardless of how bumpy the road seemed to be from time to time, they'd made it. it was closeness that those memories held that lent to his hesitation in making the move from the states to australia, the guardianship he felt he'd be abandoning.
ā shit ā sorry, @hallowburnt, i wasn't even thinking. ā not a complete lie, nathan was simply well aware of his sister's sleep schedule āøŗ or lack thereof. immediately regretful at the sound of her voice, words slurred together in a way that he was all too familiar with. ā sarah took astrid to her mother's tonight and i was putting off trying to figure out what to make myself for dinner . . . then i thought i'd check in with you. but i'm an ass, i totally forgot about the time, i'm really sorry. ā head not his own as of late, months in and he was still adjusting to life in an entirely new place. made easier with the presence of people he loved ā a daughter that made everything feel worth it when he'd felt utterly hopeless. ā i'll let you get back to sleep, okay? i'll call you back when it's not two in the morning. ā (cont.)
