#halfy problems

So people from China, who came to the states, visiting, school w/e, always told me that I looked white, and that if i ever went to China I would stick out as a white person. I believed them, after all they where from China, so of course they knew.

Yeah they where all wrong. Most people in China thought I was 100% Chinese, from China. Even the two white ppl I ended up taking to thought I was 100% Chinese. (Tho many could see that I was half, and a couple people did think I was white)

I did get a lot of "wow ur eyes look foreign/European but that being said many of those people thought I was 100% Chinese. 

Basically I pass as Asian (Chinese) in China waaaaaaaay more then I pass as white in the states.

My face didn't change between here and China but what did change was the context I was in. In China the default is Chinese, so everyone assumes I am Chinese, because that's what they expect to see.  

In the US the default is white, so more people just assume I'm white, but in the states there is much more room for other then there is in China, which is why I don't pass as white nearly as much as I pass in China.

With in the context of the states, people who expect/look for 'otherness' see me as Asian, and those who expect default tend to see me as white.
