So Iām rewatching Xiaolin Showdown and Iāve come up with a new theory about their ages. When I was younger, I thought they were somewhere between ten and sixteen. But now that Iām catching more and looking a few things up, I think theyāre actually older. My first thought on this was when Raimundo joined forces with Wuya and she tried to give him a car. Most kids donāt think about a car until, like, twoish years before they can actually drive. The driving age in Brazil is 18 so Raimundo would be somewhere between 16 and 18. But then the Silver Manta Ray is given to the monks and heās the only one who ever drives it (that I can recall and that Iāve gotten to). Which would then be assumed heās probably 18.
TheĀ Harajuku Style, the style Kimiko goes with when sheās not in monk uniform, is popular among teens. Knowing how tech-savvy she is and thinking about some of the outfits she wears, Iād probably pin her about 16 or 17.
Unfortunately, I havenāt gotten far enough to determine a more solid base for Kimiko, Clay, or Omiās ages. But since they do play Texas HoldĀ āem in one episode, Iād reason that Clay is at least 18 himself (Iād wager more 19 but thatās me). As for Omi, I still think heās youngest; Iād only put him at 15 or 16, though.
... Do I even have a fandom that cares anymore? o.O I havenāt actually been in this fandom in almost ten years...
Edit:Ā After a bit more contemplating, I think Iām ready to add to this post a bit. I have a slightly more concrete reason for believing Clay is at least 18. We know he has a younger sister, one who obviously has a license since sheās in a motorcycle gang. So he has to be older than 16. The shaky part of this theory is that we donāt know the age gap between them ā though, from what we did see in the episode āThe Black Vipersā, they canāt be more than three years apart.
The biggest hole in my logic about Raimundoās age is that Iām starting to believe that you donāt have to be a certain age to drive a Shen Gong Wu. XD Because Kimiko does drive the Silver Manta Ray in one episode and Omi drives the Crouching Cougar and the Shengaroo. Which, no matter how you look at it, I am positive everyone in this fandom believes that Omi is under the age of 16 and the driving age in China is 18. Still, I would pin Raimundo at 17 or 18 for mostly his desire of at least wanting his own car but also because of the maturity level it took to formulate the plan against Hannibal Bean with Master Monk Guan in the episode "The Return of Master Monk Guan".
As for Kimiko and Omi, even though we know more about Kimikoās family, there isnāt much to go off of to determine an age. I mean, unless you wanted to argue about her short skirts and bikini tops sheās worn before (but itās not really an argument you can use for evidence because āto each their ownā). You could bring in her comment that she had to practically beg her father to buy her clothes (I always felt this was more of an inside joke but thatās besides the point), yet in almost every episode, she had a new outfit. The point could then be argued that she was old enough to work and buy her own clothes, and thatās why she has such a variety. The age you can start working part-time in Japan is 15, by the way. Yet, that comment and the logic could easily be questioned simply just by saying, āHer dad gives her an allowanceā or āHe got better at remembering.ā So, I mean, there are a few pathetic arguments that could be translated into Kimiko being at least 15 but not a lot of information to give us any solid idea.
As for Omi⦠Thereās even less. We donāt have a time frame for when he was taken into the temple, we have no family to look at, we have nothing about the way he dresses or the way he chooses to pass his time. The only arguments you could really make are his maturity level and how it almost appears as though he has to prove himself against his teammates. If he was youngest, that would make sense, then. And, if you wanted to use that as an argument, you could even reason that Raimundo would be oldest because of the rivalry between Omi and Raimundo. (Omi always tries being better than Raimundo; wouldnāt it have been something if the youngest could have done better than the oldest? Show how much wiser and more experienced he was?) But the arguments are shaky and even more like speculation than any of the other points Iāve made. Thereās nothing to base his age on at all, really.Ā
I have this funny feeling that I could get more concrete evidence if I were to watch Chronicles and assume that we could fuse the two shows but Iām still battling whether or not I can handle watching it after watching Showdown. :/Ā
In any case, the only thing we know for certain is that a full year had passed between them becoming Xiaolin Apprentices and Wudai Warriors. I would venture to assume then, that it would be a year between each step; in which case, theyāre at least three years older than they were when they were first introduced in the show. So, in all technicalities, we could say that they really are anywhere between ten and nineteen and not be wrong. :P
